looks nice
worth restoring to working condition
where abouts are you?
krenzztpsl2 - 2012-10-30 21:59
I love restoring items for sure. But right now I have three 1969 Honda Z50 Monkey's I am restoring. I just happened upon this gem, and would rather dedicate my time on the Hondas as I have over a year invested in those. I have found that if I take on too many projects, none get done. For this learned life lesson, I am passing the restoration of the Sony to a happy new owner.
I am in Sacramento, CA.

Based on what I've seen on eBay this year this package is worth a good $300+ do not sell for a cent less.
renzgi - 2012-11-02 15:49
Alone already this deep serial number and the brown case are rare, and even then with Box.Ich think more than $ 500 are in there!
I noticed that TPS-L2 with brown case have serial numbers lower than all other models.
This one has the lowest I've ever seen serial number. Including Guys & Dolls.
....rar...........rar..........rar..........!

I would say that that serial number under 11,000 is one of the lowest I have ever seen. Impressive too is the box serial number matches player which adds to rarity Usually if in the TPS-L2 series when serial number is under 20,000 you have a much more rare first production player. Agreed the brown cases are the earliest ones usually. And you almost never find the box with that design and word SoundAbout on it. The player itself and especially orig. headphones with foam intact are pristine it appears from photos.
Krennzz since you are new I think its fair that those of us in forum that have idea of value be honest what we think its worth. Keep in mind always something is ONLY worth what someone is willing to pay for it. But some people really must have a thing and thus they will pay more than say market value would be. I keep a rough track of selling prices on eBay of many models and in past two years have seen a Boxed Soundabout go for $710 USD and a standard later model box with higher serial number and non orig. headfoam sell for $687. Although the market in Walkman is in past 6 months gone soft about 15% this is a most rare find. You are beyond lucky I would just wish once I could make such a find. I would tell you that $600 to $800 would not be unreachable to a very serious collector that is wealthy and can afford to pay because he wants it not what it is worth. I would pay a sizable sum for your player but current times do not allow for such very expensive purchases that I was making in years past. Good luck and if your not in hurry to sell you will get a very good price.

FYI Krennz : Renzgi when he used term Guys/and Dolls some of the very earliest TPS-L2 models instead of the headphone jacks marked A and B they were marked Guys and Dolls

I'm curious, are you actually interested in the history of the walkman or just how much money you can make from us collectors?

i have a question to everybody: if all here seem to agree that ebay prices are way too inflated (don't we dub it epay?), and considering that a lot of ebay sellers use this forum as a source for their out-of-this-world prices, is it wise to go on playing wallstreet2go like this?

Unless of course we charge a percentage for helping these guys line their pockets

good point AO, but unfortunately not enough:
Sharp VZ-2000 @ 1.399 AUS $ ("has engravings on rear, tip of the aerial is broken")
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Sha..._uhb=1#ht_2068wt_544
JVC RC-M90 @ 1.120 € so far - 14 hours to the end of the auction
http://www.ebay.de/itm/VICTOR-...453306#ht_5172wt_932
see what i mean?

I agree that enthusiasts sites like this have only boosted 'assumed' value of a handful of boomboxes but surely this is a good thing as any Newbie will tell you, these are the boxes that draw them to the hobby. How many first posts do we see saying 'looking for M90, GF-777, C100F zzzzzzz. I say let these guys pay top dollar for something. It's equally strange that the buyers of these expensive eBay queens rarely ever pop in here to show their haul.
But Samovar, you and I both know that it's the rarer lesser (and cheaper) models that make this hobby interesting.

The Guys & Dolls Walkman are definitely older than the SoundAbout with brown case.
The inside has parts which come from the TC100. Parts during the serial of
normal SoundAbout is disappeared.
Although the Guys & Dolls have serial numbers higher 20000 and units with brown case under 20000 . It is funny and mad.
My TPS-L2 "Guys & Dolls " has the Serial number: 19247
And my with brown case has number 18601 .
My TPS-L2 in US-SoundAbout box has the serial number 37163
I know, it was one of the early selling in USA.
