It still amuses me how many folk think the humble tape sounds bad. I guess this is understandable to a degree, but a properly sorted tape can be great sounding

On a personal note for me is it will never be gone as i have a pretty impressive collection of walkmans for myself and will never get tired of them so even if they are no more into production what we all have collected over the year's will be a great testament and legacy to the Sony Walkman...........Cheer's

I still have my TNT 8-track and I love listening to them, too - I think I'm just addicted to portable audio!

I counted recently... my cassette collection is nearing 500 pieces. That's (mostly) all tapes bought within the last 7-8 years from thrift stores, flea markets, pawn shops, bargain bins, etc. Not even a decade of collecting. None of the tapes are ones I've had since I was a little kid (although I have had a few for 17+ years). Cassettes are alive and well. You just have to know where to look. I don't have a nice walkman (yet) but I keep an eye out at every thrift store. Surprisingly, in my experience, boomboxes have been much easier to find than a nice vintage walkman.

don`t worry, there is hope : http://www.usatoday.com/story/...-a-new-high/1821601/ ..
some day, all the vinyl collectors want to hear their stuff portable ....
and then, they will demand the right product ... "does anybody know a good analog solution without digital compression ? "...mmmmmmh ....

Exactly. Music is all about character, the satisfaction of recording your own playlist and above all, not a single tape with the same song sounds the same. Every box or pile of tapes is a suprise, every recorded tape has a signature of the owner's character.
The digital "ease of use, and everybody does the same" is getting bored and cold.

Well I'm in my forties and have just about got fed up with downloading (legally) MP3 files. A few months back I purchased a turntable to play my old vinyl collection again. Then I resurrected my limited Walkman collection. Only yesterday I bought a secondhand Yamaha cassette deck to copy my vinyls for portable listening........................the ol' dog is back!!!!!!!!!!
