hi there from germany :)
gearwheel - 2013-01-24 08:01
just read only until now ... i found some real nice tips via google here, so i decided to join. there`s no board for introducing, so i do it here. if not correct, my fault, mods may delete this thread, and i`m sorry ...
i`m a 38 yrs. old tape lover, who switched back to tape in fall 2011. since then, i collected some decent decks and walkmen. atm, i am changing my collection to 80s walkmen... i startet with the flatmen from the 90s, but they`re not quite easy to repair .
within the last 12 months, i also collected more than 4000 tapes from all types and decades ^_^...
listening atm to panasonic RV-NX60V, mostly radio, its a really nice cassette player, got 3 of them .. and to 2 sony WM-DD22, which were a bargain, one in silver, one in black .. soon i will get 2 other, old pieces from germany and post pictures here. i found that tip here on s2go ...
i also have a JVC RV NB 10, one of the last ghettoblasters with cassette. but i`m not a collector of blasters ... happy to see so many walkmen threads ^_^ ...

Big hello from Blackpool....UK
gearwheel - 2013-01-24 13:28
thx guys ..
so, i`ve got a lot of pictures from my journey back to cassette ...
end of 2011 i discovered an old harman/kardon in good condition from a vintage hifi store:
after that, i saw the mad prices here in electro "discounters" for the last TDK SA`s, and decided to buy some old used, but nice tapes from BASF from ebay:
in december 2011, i surfed around the net and discovered an old sony TC-U5 for the "vintage" look ... :
in 2012, i wanted a walkman again for mobile listening.. it was a D6C, and some other newer models, because carrying that fatty around was a pain -.- ... :
after that, i collected some smaller packs of 80 to 100 cassettes.. but this was not enough... one day i found a source, were a classic music listener wanted to give away all the cassettes, he collected from 70s to 90s... it was around 2000 cassettes, and i filled my entire car from the passenger seat to the trunk :
so, it seemed i had enough for now ....
but .. i needed a spooling b*tch for this huge mountain...
i bought an old ugly dual deck to do this job ..
i discovered a nice walkman, which had autoreverse, radio, and was in good condition... these little panas are really nice... but they have a built-in little "tic tic tic" noise inside, when you play a cassette.... but exept this, all three of them just needed to clean away the dust ... :
later in summer, i was fascinated by open door decks, and i neeeeded some ..
Dual C802, C818 and 822 .. (Yamaha KX670 on the top for recording) :
december 2012, i just made a great bargain: 1300, and 150 were NOS .. :
this second mountain just was around 50 or 60 bucks and my biggest x-mas present, i think ... ...
after surfing the net for nice cassettes, i just got more walkmen a few weeks ago from a friend of mine, who is a fleamarket digger:
took them all for around 30 bucks...
i compared the DDs with the newer flatmen ... that was the point, where i decided to switch to 80s walkmen.
and so i found this forum and waiting now for two veeeery nice walkmen. hope, they`re in good condition. tomorrow, i`ll try to get a porta pro, which will fit perfect to them ^_^ ...
and finally : i`m a fan of coloured, tinted and "special" cassettes which are a bit different from the common SA`s Maxell`s, etc ... :

Gearwheel, you got the cassette bug big time. You'll slot right in here . Love the pics of all those new tapes. And all this in a little over 12 months. Brilliant effort Sir. And welcome aboard. Looking forward to reading more of your tape based adventures.

welcome,
nice collection gearwheel,
gearwheel - 2013-01-25 04:52
thx guys ...
@nakD: well, its easy to do in 12 months ... i spent maybe 500-600 $ for all this "out and old fashioned electronic garbage" ... for most ppl. its rubbish, an they throw it away or sell it @bay for some bucks. so it`s a "poor man`s hobby" i think. i also like to make video clips with decent camera equipment. what i spent in one year for cassettes... well, only one camera lens might shot such a hole into my pocket. so i`m very happy to have so much fun with that little money ^_^... you can go and fill an entire garage with a few hundred bucks .. i love it ....

Welcome gearwheel, you have the making's for a great BoomBox Collector beside's you need some to go with that beautiful Cassette empire there truly breath taking.
thx a lot ...
boombox ..well .. i like the old silver stuff with VU metres .. but they are sold for silly prices atm ... i dont mean the "always on top" products ... its amazing, how many bucks some cheapo and woolworthy "brands" cost at the bay. i checked it out 2 weeks ago.. i wanted an old universum "blaster", with black VU metres ... and this brand is really cheap. it raised from 12 $ to 80 at the end. that`s ridiculous o.O... and many of them have dead cassette players ...
even that dumb RV NB 10 i bought in 2007 for 180 $ refurbished... i saw a used one, which was sold for 300$ .. o.O ... this is mad...
kin - 2013-01-27 08:50
welcome! Awsome stuff you got there. Years of listening and recording pleasure.
gearwheel - 2013-01-28 10:15
thx ... i like to have an audio dungeon ... its cool to grab around the boxes and see, what collectors recorded all the years ^^ ...
and i love this forum. it`s all about the vintage mobile ...
retrodos - 2013-01-28 10:34
I would like to buy those BASF cassettes and TDK SA?
As far as the turntable, don't let it collect dust, use it!!
Wait are you "FeCr3" from Youtube?
snowcrab - 2013-01-28 10:49
Impressive stock Gearwheel!
greetings from another "tapehead" from the Netherlands.....
gearwheel - 2013-01-29 04:11
@retrodos: mmh, i don`t have that much records, and my fav is dark electro/industrial music. that kind of music isnt really available on vinyl, and if, it wouldn`t make much produce it on vinyl. it sounds very harsh, distorted and sick ... i even love other electronic music. i have a bunch of techno music here, but it sounds terrible on vinyl imho. i have most fun with recording electro music from CD to tape, like i did 20 yrs. before..
no, i`m not FeCr3, is my english that bad ? xD ... i like that guy and his videos, he`s a real vintage hifi lover, but his spoken english in his videos is a pain to listen to, even for me as a german ...
well, i think it doesn`t make sense, to ship cassettes from germany to usa. due to the horrible price for shipping .... i searched for nice cassettes from the us, but i didn`t order because of shipment was 80% of the cassettes...
@snowcrab: i live in duisburg, which is only 30 minutes far away from NL ... i love the "bizarre" shop in maastricht. a lot of nice clubwear there ^_^ ...
lav.loo - 2013-01-29 04:16
