got this "tecstar" no namer today, i got in the bay for 1 €...
seller described it as "bought in the 80s, stored in end of 80s, was ok then, but sold as faulty/as is.. " ...
ok .. i got it for an €, so i couldn`t go wrong...
i opened it up, and THERE WAS SOMEONE IN THERE ALREADY ....
simple kitchen rubber O.o ... :
ok .. replaced it with a belt..
mmh . sounds good ...
oh ... suprise .. a canon motor ^^ :
after that, i cleaned it, lubricate a bit, soldered the jerky headphone jack again, and polished the clear window a little bit with toothpaste... looks better, sounds ok and smells mint ...
thats the widest open door, i`ve ever seen on a cassette player. its nice and easy to clean .

Very nice. Love the DIY belt. It's years since I've come across Tecstar. I recently came across a "Murphy" cassette Player, alas it was pure junk............even when new I reckon.
Something like this http://bit.ly/Xstv9M

Nice walkman! , but indeed not the same as my fairmate!!

ooh what a steal!

@aob9 : i dunno much about tecstar, never seen before ... oh .. that murphy ... looks like it was build with murphys law in construction xD ...
@walkgirl: yes, its not like the fairmate. play is mechanical, not powered like the fairmate... the whole device seems to be very simple, but solid. it also has no dolby, but a "talk" button for interrupting sound as long the button is pressed.
@kin: sometimes, i buy a sony for 50 €, and it`s a hell of restoring... sometimes i get no names or brands below the grails and have very positive surprises... its the daily win and lose game ^^ ..
