WM-7 childhood memories

Hey people, this is my first post and for the last year or so I have been reading these forums as a visitor . The walkman was a huge influence in my life and I can remember my dad presenting me with a brand new Sony WM-7 on my 13th birthday, it was quite simply the most futuristic thing I had ever seen and when I first took it to school I instantly became the coolest kid ever. The sound quality was awesome and it meant that from then on I would become intolerant of any device that had inferior sound quality,( the last one I bought was an Aiwa HS-px100, still have it in the attic somewhere). If I knew then what I know now I would have kept the box and headphones but by the age of 16 the walkman had been replaced with another sony and the WM-7 was lost forever. For years I wished I could find another WM-7 and it wasn't until last year that I became aware of e-bay, taa daaa! I now own a WM-7 in good working condition but alas without the headphones and remote. However, it appears to have a lot of 'ground' hum on playback and some discernible wow and flutter, can anyone give me some tips on how to address these issues? I have some technical skill ( I fixed the gear wheel in my dd2) but it may be beyond my capabilities.
cheers.

Welcome to the forum, we all share a passion for the Walkman here. I'm sure some of the more tech savvy people will be along to help with your WM-7.

Welcome! Thnx for sharing us your fond memories of your walkman.
You will get a wm-7 in notime. (mine was a philips D6541 and I was 11. It popped up at my local auction site and snatched it right away without hesitation.)

Welcome aboard Scott.
Great background story! It's funny how a little electronic box can rehash so many good memories
I'd start with replacing the belt and cleaning the pinch rollers and capstans. Be sure to use a rubber safe cleaner (ie a rubber restoring agent is best).
If you've done these things you may want to PM Retrodos or Dottor Walkman. Both experts with these babies!
