WM-WE01 wireless stuck in take up

johnedward - 2009-03-15 09:30

Hello all, Got lucky found a WM-WE01 Japan release only model out of Australia for $27 US. No remote control or headphones but freq. resp. is much better direct connect headphone anyway. ( anyone have just remote/headphones for sale let me know pm)
TECH PROBLEM : First received unit it played perfect for about 5 mins. Turned off came back later and regardless if you press Play, FF or REW ( all do same thing )it spins tape in play direction ONE rotation then stops reverses for 1/4 rotation then switches back to play for ONE rotation then stops. As if stuck in tape slack take up mode all time. I do not have service manual on this model. Have WM-WE1 which is top load and earlier release 97 I think? So cant use that. Hope someone can help it is beautiful newer unit and fairly rare I believe. My thanks and appreciation JOHN

Hi John,

Sounds like a stretched belt to me, I've had some modern Sony players do this changed the belts and they worked great.
Good luck in your search for the receiver and headphones very rare to find them on their own, players on the other hand without them easy.

he's right...many things can be solved by replacing the belt. after having messed around with casettes for several years i have fixed problems i never thought had anything to do with the belt. the first thing to try when you have a problem like that it give it a fresh belt. another thing i have just learned is cheap cassettes are really badly constructed and can cause problems where none exists.

I greatly appreciate the responses guys and will try the belt route. Hopefully it is not to difficult in this model.
