Well,

I have to admit I never expected this to happen. I joined this community because I like cassette players. I always have. From the wilderness to civilization, from cheam noi-name players to state-of-the-art players such as the WM-DC2, I never stopped searching and I was never tired. This is the story of how I got it...

I have been a walkman lover since I got my first one. it was an Aiwa PS141 which cost 12$ and I got it on my first visit to Germany. It was so great and it had a bass boost. Some other people bought Philips because they have never heard of an Aiwa. But I knew! So while they were listening on their cheap Philips walkmans, I was enjoying my bass on Aiwa. Since then I have had a couple of dozen walkmans maybe... ranging from Aiwa, Sony, Panasonic, Philips, Sanyo and some other el-cheapo walkmans. The best thing I ever had was a Panasonic SX75 with it's incredible 45x access speed. I got it when I started college and one day I left it in a jacket and it was gone! Someone has stolen my baby! And since then I have been trying to get one, but nothing. Then, I read a story about DD walkmans... i thought it was a good idea from an engineering point of view. And there it was, the mother of all walkmans - DC2. I read several articles, even a hifi choice one about it. Laser amorphous heads... and I was in love. I searched for it on ebeay but I realized that there was no way for me to get it... too expensive even when broken. And I like all my walkmans to work because I do listen to music on them.

And then, after so many years of frustration, I read an ad in a local newspaper - selling decks. So i called the guy and he told me to come over. The guy is a freak!!! He has 86 decks at home and 200 additional components more like cd players and amps. And he showed me the deck - Sony TC-K511S. In perfect brand new shape. And then he insisted on me seeing his other stuff which is NOT for sale! He had Aiwas, Nakamichis, Sonys, Akais and all the other amazing machines. And so I said, hey wait, do you have any walkmans? And he said, oh yeah, I have a couple... It took him like 30mins to find them in all that haze of electronics and then he said - come here! First thing I saw was an Aiwa. It said HX amorphous head... I was like shaking. And I said like... hmm would, would you errm, would you sell it to me? please...? And he said NO!!! Don't even ask me that! I'd never sell that! And I guess he must have felt my disappointment and said - look Antun, I'd rather take a punch in my face than sell any of my stuff. it would be easier to take a spit in my face than to do that! And I was like - I'm sorry. And then he showed me the rest of his collection - and there I saw it - just the letters. It said "DC2". And I was like... I'm not gonna even ask him because it would be disrespectful and he might get angry with me. And he said, here hold this. He gave me his DC2. And then we came downstairs, I payed him for the tc-k511s and said. okay, this walkman is really fascinating. And he said - Yeah I know... but it isn't mine! I said - whose is it then? And he said - yours!

So in essence, after spending so much money on worthless junk, I got the best one for free and that is why it means so much to me. That story is it's history and i'd probably never sell it. Just like he didn't plan to but must have felt sorry. It was never my intention to just get it like that.

And then when I came home. I plugged my vintage AKG K240 into it and I was amazed at the sound. it actually was better than the deck I just bought. More transparent and solid. Also, the presence and focus were incredible. Absolutely amazing! But there was a click... and you know the rest.

I asked you guys for help. AgentOrange offered to help me but didn't have the part he needed to fix it. Then I got a PM from Rencgi saying he will fix it and that I wouldn't have to pay for the shipping only. And I was very surprised about that.

He seemed very convincing and dedicated so I followed my instinct and sent it to him. It's almost 2000km from where I live but I did it anyway.

Today I recieved it back. It is working like a swiss watch! Incredibly silent and smooth! The sound is as good as it gets meaning sharp, crisp, powerful, driving, exciting and even gentle and subtle when needed. It carries emotions through it's circuitry to my head and my heart. I absolutely love it.

Rencgi... I am forever in your debt.

Hi Tuna, I am so glad you shared that story in detail. Experiences like that are once in a lifetime. I can truly see why your DC2 was and will be so precious. Thank you for taking time to share this with the forum. You knowledge of Panasonic's has helped me often and want to thank you. They are probably my favorite 90's players.
I have had my DC2 for about 7 months interesting story but not as well as yours. Of sad note when I got the player no click at all. But in past month can just barely hear so appears the gear is finally cracked and now sadly with time or use it seems will grow worse.

Thank you very much for reading! Apart from wanting to thank Rencgi for his wonderful work, the part of the reason I posted it is that I wanted you to read it because I know you like walkman stories

Also, thank you for the kind words.! But I am really no expert in panasonics. But I will tell you that I have successfully repaired the SX20 walkman. It is back from the dead and is kickin! It is still wowing a bit but the results are beyond expectations. I currently have a pc problem so I can't upload any photos (pc won't recognize the camera) but it took me 2 hours today to take pics of some of my walkmans. I promise to post them soon. The amazing SX75 walkman will be included of course.

I can now say that all my walkmans work!!

Also, to add to the DC2 story,m I have to say that after the guy gave me his precious DC2, I was unable to drive home because of the excitement.
