Hello there. Just received a HS-JX 3000 i purchased recently and the dam thing won't work. When the cassette is put in, and the play button is pressed it says play, makes a noise, then it stops. Although it has stopped, it still makes a noise as if the motor is still running in it. Anyone know what the problem could be? Its boxed and in mint condition. A real bummer. Cheers all.
Hi there , great player sorry to hear mint and boxed yet not working. I have not personal experience with one but if you put in HS-JX3000 there are several posts on here about them. As I remember many members commented on they tend to have problems and do not work very often when bought used. There are only a few members that tear these newer models apart and try to fix them. Usually too much is crammed into too small a space. Really hard to repair is my feeling. Maybe someone on here has had one apart and can help. What do you think guys.?
Cheers mate. I live in hope.
I fixed mine a little over a year ago, it a broken belt, the real problem is trying to find the belt a pain. But is worth fixing while you are in there clean and relube all the gears and part that need lube. A very nice unit dolby b-c nr with wired remote, great sounding unit.
Sound mate. I thought that could be the problem. I reckon its been used a dozen times at most. I also have a hs-jx 2000 mint which has never given me any trouble. I was thinking of sending it to mwes repair centre in England to get it repaired. Anyone had any dealings with them?
Cheers. Help is much appreciated.

Hi! JX3000 eh? That is an extraordinary machine! About the service centres... I would discourage you to do that. In most service centers here, they make you believe you can trust them your equipment and then you see an 17 or 20 year old technician at the desk... In my expereience, they never fixed anything good. You will have a lot more luck if you find someone on this or other forums. Try tapeheads.net also.
Aiwa JX series are far more sophisticated machines than any portable stereo, except maybe the minidisc units. But it's up to you to decide!
Cheers!

Agree with you 100% percent had one JVC walkman sent in to a local repair shop and got it back with a few screws missing and still didn't work right ended up giving it away, So for now on I just order the parts and fix them myseft.
Thanks for all the advise. Okay, so i open it up and remove the circuit board to access the drive and belts. What should i be looking for? And also, where can i get belts if they need replacing?
Also, anyone bought one of those service manuals they sell online? They are $15. Are they worth getting?

Here one place they had one for my WM-10 and WM-F15 they do full size deck more, or try Ebay they may have listing for 20 belts various you will have to match them up if you go to Ebay.

Okay, so i've taken the back off the player. i've undone all the screws on the circuit board, including all the screws on the side. But it still seems stuck beside where the battery compartment terminals are. I can lift the circuit board and even see the belts and motor, but at this point it won't lift. I don't want to force it for fear of breaking it. Anyone opened one up that had the same problem and found a solution? Cheers.
i don't know that cassette player but i have run into that problem around the battery area on several players. sometimes the battery "springs" are attached in several different ways. it does hang up there often. if the springs are slid into a groove they need to be gently loosened and slid out of there resting place. they are easy to break away from the connection to the circuit board but usually can be resoldered easily. anyway,,good luck and when it gets frustrating take a long rest and resume later.
Cheers mate, but there are no springs in this model. Just a small rectangular terminal where the battery compartment comes into contact. I think my best bet is to download a repair manual just to be on the safe side. Why are these things so hard to work on. Anyone got a loan of an electron microscope. Some of the screws on this thing are tiny. I'll battle on.
well, what a coinkadence. I just replaced belts from my Aiwa HS-J470 and replaced the belts. see messages I posted AS DANDYDON . well the gent that advised you the battery spring does lift off a mite ,yes do not force it.you will notice wires on the pc board that go to the motor, there is some slack there to l.ift the board, maunly the black ground wire is with that bundle that are held down to the pc by some kinda wax. just be careful. till you can see the belts.Orig. Aiwa belts r hard to come by.Two sources can supply replacement belts. to their p/n,www.studiosoundelectronics.com,another is partstore.com if you have Aiwa belt p/n they may have orig. the studiosound belts r a little thicker, however they do work let me know how it goes, maybe I can help. service manuals do help,as to belt # and belt attachment, I have 2 Aiwas and they r similar as to hookup from motor as to fly wall to flywall,u can probably sketch the config, and be OK have fun dandydon.
I've decided to accept defeat on this one guys. To difficult. Its back in the box with that one and on to the next one. Thanks for all the advise!
Hello all. I've come up with a solution to my problem. I've bought myself a mint aiwa hs-jx707 which works perfectly. Both walkmans are identical mechanically, so i've just switched the outside housing on both. If i were to send it to a repair center it would have cost a fortune, and who's to say it would have been done perfectly. Suffice to say, i'm very pleased indeed with the result.
Wow! That is really cool! Where did you get a mint Aiwa JX707 and for how much? Also, are you telling me that even the tuner sections on thse machines is identical?!?
Hi. I got it off a very nice bloke from New York for $80, which was a bargain. It was not on ebay, just done plenty of digging on the web and found this guy selling it. It was in mint condition. you see the jx-3000 is identical to the jx-707, only a special gold edition. The jx-2000 is also identical to the jx-505, again just a special edition. All that is required is patience changing the housing, which in truth is quite easy. Its taken me a lot of searching to find a mint 707. But heck it was worth it, and also enjoyable, God bless the web.

LOL Thank you for explaining! Well at least now I know. I really didn't know they were identical. Can you tell me how does it sound? If you have something good from Sony like the DC2 or something, can you please do a quick comparison. I have an really old Aiwa home system with BBE system and though I am not a big fan of equaliation systems, this one sounds really good. It really adds more realism and excitement to the music. I also heard that Aiwa JX707 has a superb tuner built in which can catch even the wakest of signals. I really admire that machine, but I just can't take any more disappointments. The last stuff I bough didn't work and I couldn't fix it. Regards!
Maybe because it is never used?

Hey Walkgirl! How's everything!
Yeah that might be true. But it is very hard for me to watch them just sitting on the shelf and being able to listen to them... Very sad feeling.
Hi. Yea i know the feeling. Bought two lemons on ebay before this one. Normally the radio works, but the cassette is always faulty. I don't have any sony cassette players to compare this one, i'm an aiwa fan. But i can tell you this, the sound on this one is awesome. The vocals are so sharp and clear. I think it would be hard to find a better sounding player than this one, and i have had a lot of aiwa's down the years. They are lovely machines, but they have to be bought in working order, due to the difficult nature of trying to repair them.
one of the most beat up,ugliest cassette players i ever bought was an aiwa hs-po6. it even had the tuner pack and the whole deal went for 16.00 delivered on ebay. when they are worn they really look bad. it also has to be in the top 10 of the cassette players i own for sound quality. this was a case of a good thing coming in an ugly package.
