Help with DC2

toocool4 - 2009-12-14 12:31

Hi Guys can anyone please help me with a problem on my last working DC2?

It has developed a fault but not the usual fault. The main gear is not broken but the clutch has gone, i.e. it does not produce enough torque to drive the take up reel. Most of the time it works but I can’t trust it not to chew up my tapes.

The clutch is part of the assembly on the main gear, anyone knows how I can fix the clutch?

Thanks

Chris

Hi Guys after taken it apart I noticed the main gear has the beginning of a crack in it. So I’ve replaced the gear with a new one. After putting it back together I now noticed the clutch was too tight, now it pulls the tape off-line and chews it.

I have tried to adjust the clutch, it’s a bit better now but it’s not sounding good since I have not set the clutch correctly.

Come on guys someone most be able to give me pointers in setting the clutch correctly so this beautiful walkman can give me great sound again?

Thanks

Chris

HELP! DC2 rear quarter glass removal

I suggest not using the piano wire method mentioned above on DC2s. Ive had bad experience using it on my integra. The metal wire method works great but only if you can remove the rubber molding which you cannot in the DC2. The DC2 quarter glass and window molding is one piece. I tried using this method without damaging the rubber but i ended up taking chunks off the rubber molding.

Plus the window has 3 plastic clips integrated to the window molding which the piano wire cant cut through.

What i ended up doing is just getting a razor blade and welded it to a metal bar for some leverage. If you cant do that just have it removed professionally which cost around $25 per window which is better than paying $300 for a brand new quarter glass.

Hi Cody48 i don't think your answer is meant for me.

I have now sent my DC2 back to Sony for repair.

Sure i will do, i got a text from Sony last wednesday telling me it was on the engineers desk being worked on and should be sent back in about 5 days.

I supplied all the parts they are just setting it up for me, they are charging £71.

It took me a long time to find the correct Sony repair center to sent it to.

If it all works out fine i have 2 more in the same state as the one they are fixing.

Good for you. Smile The closest Sony Service Center over here in Mongkok is much less friendly
