Hi genejazz.
What revision is this WM-D6C approximately? Does it use SMD components?
Can you describe the problem? How does mute not function correctly?
If pb muting is a problem, I'm guessing what is responsible is Q304 or Q303. Q304's no. is 2SC2458. This transistor switches Q303 (which is labelled Q803 - I think its a misprint), number: 2SB810. Q303 drives the 386 headphone and Dolby amps.
Merry Christmas to you!
EDIT:
I guess you have not got a copy of the service manual for the WM-D6C? Here is a reference link where you can download a PDF copy:
http://www.givemefile.net/sman...sony/file/30665.htmlIt will help you locate the component.
The unit is a TC-D6C early. SN 12112.
No SMDs, through hole pcb. I do have a service manual but it seems to not match my unit.
There is considerable distortion in the output now. ESL told me my output muting transistors are damaged.
I think at this point, it is easier to find another unit and keep this early one for spare parts.
