I been noticing very bad corrosion on all the solder points on all model between early to mid 90's AIWA units more so with the highend models, and these model use electrolytic capacitors, lifespan only 10 years which will cause low audio hum or logic controls won't work even AIWA walkman that are "new in the box" units. The problem is you can't even recaps these due to how bad the corrosion try using baking soda to neutralize acid, but doesn't work due to age of the unit.
Reason believe the level of corrosion is high is due to the cheap solder AIWA use or the electrolytic capacitors leaking everywhere. Ways you can tell is the color of the solder will be dull in color and is you try to solder you will have that strong acid smell. Seen this on even new in the box unit, so I know is not because of water damage, seen this on all AIWA between these years.
thanks,,i have been meaning to ask a general question as to what is going on with these aiwa'a. i only have one and i consider it useless but didn't know why!!!!
I have a HS-GS392 and never noticed any corrosion.

It on the PCB it not that noticable, only way you will know is the solder color on the PCB board will be dull, and not shiny.
I own a jx-2000. I have owned it from new. Think i bought it in the early 90's. It still works the same today as it did when i bought it. Every single function works perfectly. It has never had any belt changes, or repair. I think this model and the jx-505 are an exception to this rule. They are very well made machines, unlike the jx-707.
My HS-PX1000 works perfectly. No issues at all with the solder points. No issues with low audio hum. Logic controls work great.
I can confirm DrMRs statements 100%. I´ve seen 6 x JX2000 + 3 x JX505, except 1 all with very strong hum in sound. I´ve seen 7 JX3000 + 6 JX707, except 1 all with several very serious problems in mechanics, two with broken hinges. I´ve seen 7 x HS-F505 all except 1 with very loud background noises and a horrible painful sound when activating Dolby. I´ve seen several other high-end units of this time with such problems. But it does not affect them all and every unit has its special defects. Also there are very rare exceptions.
