Hi guys, I have been lurking here for several years now, and just recently got a nice working WM-101, which has the AA battery holder, but is missing the gumstick battery holder and the charger.

Does anyone have a surplus gumstick holder and possibly a charger they'd be willing to sell me? I know the chargers are available new for cheap on ebay, but I figure it never hurts to ask. All the battery holders from around that time appear to be interchangeable - I don't know for sure if that's true though.

i have been looking for a gumstick battery holder for a year or two. i could use one for a wm-100 and for a wm-100ii if they even exist. good luck......

Wow, I wouldn't have imagined these were so rare - but granted, this was probably the very first accessory folks would lose!

not so much lost but breakage also. the 2 little plastic prongs that held one side in were very fragile. i believe that even when the plastic dried up they became brittle. last but not least,,they had to be installed very gently and not forced into place. oops,,one more thing, the good old corrision problem. i thought i had me one a few months ago but the battery had been left in to long.

Corrosion does seem to be the other achilles heel of the gumstick batteries. I have a newer model (wm-ex618) on the way to me right now and I just went ahead and ordered a new gumstick battery for it. I'm not even going to mess around with the old (original) one. Interestingly, Sony still sells the most current model charger on their parts & accessories site.

there are alot of ways to go at that battery-charger problem. believe it or not there are at least 2 different lengths. they are not much different but just enough so they won't all fit in all players. in more of a problem with the different cd players. as far as the cassette players go they all seem to be interchangeable even if they are a hair tight or loose. all the way from 450mAh up to 1450 mAh will work in any cassette player with the only difference being the play time. even the candium will work in the ones listed for nimh. i have never run into an electrical problem. the one thing i don't do is swap differnt chargers. i use a charger listed to be used with the battery. they have some listed on ebay now for 7-12 dollars. i don't know about these but they are probably good with any cassette player. the only thing you need to watch out for is the aiwas with the lead acid batteries. they are out of production and next to impossible to find. if you happen to stumble upon a great on a nice aiwa stay away unless it has a sidecar for 2 AAA batteries. if you don't have that you may have a player with no way to run it. one last problem is charging a battery inside some of the cd players. if they expand when they are hot they won't come out. let them cool down a day or two and they will shrink to there original size.
