Hello!
I need a new belt for the WM-550C. The old one was stretched too much so can't make a real measurement. I think this walkman uses the same transport as the WM-150 and WM-170/171. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Tuna
I too would like to know what the drive belt sizing is for this Walkman.
Anyone able to find out?
Well still nothing. I need to get that gear first as it always goes out of place so the new belt won't do much use if I don't fix that first. This walkman is seriously starting to annoy me.
A good idea is to ping member docp who will sell you a set of belts which cover pretty much all sizes.
Oh I already have. An amazing set of belts! But I need the gear because this one seems to be loose and jumps out of place every time the tension rises on the motor. I rellay don't like this transport.

Ok, so are you able to work out from that assortment what is the most suitable belt to fit?
Well, I cannot make a good guess since it is constantly wowing no matter what I do with it. It is useless since the transport is not working properly. I will be able to tell you after I fix it properly, sorry. I don't have an WM-150 or WM-170 and I think these are identical so if there is anyone who has them, they might provide an answer.
Hello John! Well I should have known you have it - you have everything!! LOL!! But thanks for the offer. We are uncertain as to which belt size fits the unit but I don't want you to disassemble your unit for my benefit as it is not really worth risking another unit - let alone someone else's. The belt is a minor issue here, my transport is not working as it should. The center gear spring that holds the gear in place doesn't seem to work. It does for a while and then suddenly the gear jumps out of it's place causing the entire mechanism to stop and the belt just slips out of place. The tension actually damaged the belt I installed first so I didn't want to push it before I get that gear assembly.
550C is a nice unit - very tiny and it has the most beautiful design - it really does look timeless with that classy cassette window. I fear that Sony in orer to make the units smaller installed this mechanism rather than the one they had in the WM-507 and obviously this one is of a lower grade.
