Hey all,
I just got a MISB WM-190 off the bay for cheap...and I'm sooo delighted
The unit works perfectly! Even though it's practically brand new, after 18 years I would've certainly expected some issues.
There's however one thing I'm a little concerned about. The WM-190 has a mega-bass three position switch. On low, the sound is crispy clear. Once I put it on mid or high, I get a slight humming sound. Is this problem solely hardware related or is it possible the quality of the tape is causing this?

ImageShack.usBTW, I was surprised the 190 has an amorphous head. I'm even happier now
Cheers all!

Great find. As for the hum when mega bass turned on I have a few models in this series ( same design and 3 position bass switch) All when turned on add a low level hum to the sound.
I just assumed it was a design problem with the mega bass circuit in these models since I have several that this happens. Maybe its a bad cap on pcb? Not really technical with these walkman yet so of limited help other than to confirm your problem is not unique to your player.
Thanks John! Yeah, I think it's most likely a cap-related problem. Oh well, I think I can live with a little humming.
