Hey guys, does anybody know how/where to get a new wire for the Sony MDR-E888 earphones? (without spending too much) The wire of the right earphone snapped....again. Thanks
You're probably going to have to get the earpieces opened up in order to solder the wire back in so why not just use the old one? To be honest, there are some very nice affordable headphones around, why not just replace them.
Alternatively you could buy some new ones, there are loads on eBay for around fifty bucks.

Not too long ago I saw several E888s for 10$ new-in-box on ebay.com and the seller was from Hong kong I think. These are old earphones - around 12 years I think but note the more recent versions have a significantly more flexible cable than the older versions. The older ones had copper wires inside and the strands were rather thick so soldering those was simple but the way earphones go, they use very thin wires. For around 50 or 60$ you can get a nice pair of earphones but they won't be as transparent as the E888.
I would recommend checking out the Yuin earphones which are similar to the Sony and sonically probably even better - you can look them up if you type in hifiman in google search but I do know they advertise on head-fi. However, like the E888, these are open ear phones that leak sound in and out so if you want the ones that block out the external noise you will have to look elsewhere but those are more expensive if you want something good.
