I've got a few WM-1's and a TCS-330 (I think that's what it is) that play perfectly well but don't rewind or fast-forward. A disassembly of one unit revealed a small yellow plastic toggle with a spring attached that moves one way to engage REW and the other to FF. This toggle has cracked and will not support the spring, which is the thing that engages the functions. I'm imagining this problem has been encountered by others, has anyone done anything about making/finding replacemants? Would there be interest if a replacement part was manufactured?
oddly enough i have a sony tc-121 mono recorder that is like new. it has almost the same look as the wm-1 and has the same problem you describe. also right now on ebay there is a sony tc121 with the same problem. i wouldn't be surprised the problem you describe is very common with the same cause. the other functions work perfectly as does the play button. the trouble with the recorders is they are common and have very little value.
I work in an industry that does a lot of small scale casting, I may just get this plastic toggle cast in metal. Let me know if this would be useful to the community. I'm also contemplating manufacturing a plastic rim for the sony DD series driving wheel. The idea is to make it so you simply break off the original toothed rim and snap the replacement on in its place. If it is made propely then it won't require any glue to attach, just a press-fit to the metal wheel. Obviously, this is a much more difficult job and may take some work to get right. Wish me luck!
you will get a full 2 thumbs up from me...i have a wm-d3 with a case of the ticks. i wouldn't try to strip it down to that broken gear especially when otherwise it is working so well...good luck...
I have made quite a few of those linkages in both plastic and metal. Feel free to PM me

Ahh, I guessed someone may have pipped me to the post! My original link is complete, so it may make for a better casting subject! Do you sell the linkages you made? Dang me if I can't work out how to PM!
I would also be very, very interested in a few of those gears. I have a DDII with broken gears and a friend of mine has..... a D3 with broken gears!!
