WM-D6C will not FF or REW

Hi folks,

I've lurked occasionally and appreciate the great advice here (and know why my WM-D3 has the tick of death :-( ).

I picked up a used WM-D6C a while ago (one with the later board) and the FF and REW have stopped working. Record and playback work fine. Is this a belt problem (I see from the service manual that there are 2 belts), and if so how difficult is it to replace them?

Thanks!

P.S. The service manual is also available as a free download at http://www.eserviceinfo.com/

Hi

Does the motor run when FF / REW are engaged? BATT indicator lit?

As I remember, in the WM-D6C only the take-up reel tension was on a belt-drive to an autostop mechanism. Since you have no problem playing back / recording in that the tape is cleanly wound up you don't need to worry about the main drive belt. The Second belt referred to in the manual is the one for the counter.

The FF / REW are drive by a small roller that directly engages onto the motor flywheel. My guess is that the levers for engaging this is not adequately tensioned (often you would find out when it doesn't cue / review properly.)

Just a thought.

kkzeder,

Thanks for the info. The motor does run when FF or REW are engaged but only for about 1 second. The BATT indicator does light up and stays lit after the motor stops.

The counter works fine so I guess the belts are fine.

Thanks!
