Does anyone have a D6C for parts? I'm looking for only a Sony CX20084. It's a surface mount chip that supposedly will fix the 'hyper speed' playback of this WM-D6C I am repairing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
I read the previous posts about this similar issue, and saw that Sony has discontinued the part (confirmed). But they referred me to an electronics shop which supposedly has the part. They're closed for the weekend. I'll post whether or not I track down the IC. Unfortunately, this circuitboard has a rat's nest of wires. It's really a nasty area to have to solder in. =/
Apparently some turn up on ebay once in a while.
I'd desolder the rat's nest of wires first before soldering the new chip in, but I will rather leave it to a specialist at smt chips.
there is a guy on ebay that sells them brand new....not sure of his details though
Thanks everyone for your replies. The local shop does not carry Sony parts anymore, so I am going to buy one from eBay. It's a shame that this Walkman can be damaged so badly by a reversed voltage. It makes me want to add a bridge rectifier, but most modern power supplies probably have this. I suppose I will post some pictures of the procedure.
Good news everyone! The brain surgery was a complete success. I now have a fully functional WM-D6C. Thanks again to everyone who helped.
