I have a WM-F10 that won't power up.  There's a lot of corrosion and the belt is pretty much a melted mess.

I was wondering if the radio should still function even if the belt is missing.  Not too sure about how the circuitry works, but I'm thinking the radio should produce some sound with or without a belt.

Also, any personal favorite ways to clean up battery corrosion?

the radio should still work without the belt. its got to be that battery corrosion. i find a fine grit sandpaper works best.

yes definitely it should power up without belt,try another betls ,if you dont get try vcps & old vcrs belts.just try to clean the battery contact poles by petrol or gasoline and check out the board with an ammetere

Yes, the radio would work once the walkman is cleaned up assuming there is no damage to the traces or components on the PC board.

To clean up battery acid make up a paste of bicarbonate of soda (Sodium Bicarbonate) to neutralise the battery acid. Gently scrub the areas with the paste using a soft toothbrush. Wash off liberally with water and check for any residual salt deposits. Repeat above if necessary. Let the PC board to dry in a warm dry place over night, for example a heated linen cupboard.

To brighten up the battery contacts polish them off with a cotton bud and a metal polish such as Brasso.

Clean the pulleys and wheels with rubbing alcohol. You can contact DocP on the forum for a replacement belt or try turntableneedles.com for a new belt.

You need headphones plugged in for power.

Check the flexible cable to the door for tears. I had to fix a small tear on mine.
