WM 75 Refurb project

Hi all,

Finally got one of my grails. A Blue WM 75!

Listening to OK Computer (TDK SF 90) on it now with a decent set of headphones (Grado SR 60). Sounds pretty good (gave it a light service first). When polishing the outer side of the "port-hole" the tape/glue holding it together disintegrated! With regard to effecting a repair, would double sided tape work well? Or is glue the way to go, bearing in mind we are dealing with 25 year old plastic? Would appreciate any thoughts! (Will update with photo, have tried but cannot make it show right now!)

Wow Nak D !

Really rare your blue W-75. I saw you've been looking.

Congratulations!

Thanks Renzgi. I have to say the sound is far better than I dared hope! Just want to put it back together as nature/Sony intended!

I believe that is actually a type of precision cut double sided glue tape.

When I had to replace the window on my DC2 The Window was secured using the same material. I used high quality (low fibre) thin double sided tape to secure the new window (and the tape guides) and they work just fine.

Hi Bub, great stuff. I'll have a word with Mr Google and see what I can come up with. I think you're on the right track as my friend suggested that using something like UHU could prove an issue given the inherent solvents. Any other suggestions are welcome including how to remove the old now yellowed glue. I was hoping to just scrape it off but whilst it's adhesive properties are now ineffectual, it's still being stubborn; although this area will ultimately be hidden, I don't want to damage anything. Would be good to hear what other board members have used with success!

Well, I'm going to try using the glue gun soon! A little hot melt applied carefully, allowing for setting times and of course considering the potential heat issue. Just had the WM re-belted with the help of my techy friend and, of course, Doc P.
