If the JX505 isn't getting power, have you been able to confirm that there is any power leaving the battery pack? You should get roughly 2.4 Volts DC across the 3 contact points using a multimeter.

If you've got good batteries in and not get a good steady voltage, check and see if the battery terminals aren't covered in crud or corroded. Use rubbing alcohol to clean the battery contacts. If they are badly corroded then use a metal polish like Brasso to polish out any corrosion. There is also a likelihood if the terminals were badly corroded that the PC board inside the battery pack may need a good clean up too.

If you are getting power from the battery pack, then it is likely an issue with the connectors on the JX505. These may have dry joints on the PC board causing the unit not to function, in which case they will need to be re-soldered.

Beyond that, it could be something else fundamentally wrong with the JX505, which is outside the scope of general discussion without further analysis.

Another thought that has crossed my mind is that you suggest that the gold contacts have "worn out" These are spring loaded pins, so if you are describing them as "worn out" then in all probability they have simply gotten stuck. To free them spray a very small amount of WD-40 over them and leave to sit for 30 minutes. Then with a steel pin gently loosen them by pushing the pin over the contact pins.

well,,,,plop,,it has the bad cancer.  everything is working as it should and it's clean too. not even a flicker of power. no light came on. when i got it twas just a bit funny but as the year drug on it got to the point where it did nothing at all. i put a good couple of hours in it for nada. that's they way they go sometimes. 2 out of 3 come back but the other doesn't....thanks very much for your tips as i did learn some things anyway...rerooted.....

Well, if it is not the battery pack contacts, then it is probably dry / oxidized solder joints or dried out caps or a combination of both.

In what way was it "a bit funny"? I had symptoms of intermittent power and screwy controls with my PX505, but that was due to dirty contacts on the battery pack and the points above as well as a PC board contaminated with a capacitor electrolyte.

I'm sure with a competent technician you could get it working again.
