Similar type to AIWA HS-JX303?

Hi,

I own a HS-JX303, which fortunately has a bi-azimuth head. Unfortunatelly one of the hinges is broken. Another JX303 for spare parts is very hard to find. Does anybody knows, whether another type of AIWA Walkman from this period of time uses the same head assembly unit? So that I could try to get one for spare parts.

Thank you in advance and best regards

Depends what part of the head assembly is broken. There are common parts shared between a number of AIWAs but if it is a specific part to the JX303, then you are looking really for another JX303.

Are you able to take a photo to show us which part is damaged?

Attached are some picturs of the broken part (red arrows). It is a small piece of metal, which is attached with one screw to the body. Such a piece I would need.

The photos really were a great help.

The good news is, you will be quite relieved to know that the part in question is probably one of the most commonly used around. It was used in numerous AIWA models such as the PX303, JX303, RL303, JX505, PX505, PL50, PL70 and so on. Any of those late 80s AIWA with the bi-azimuth and slightly later early 90s AIWA with the fixed azimuth players that used the same transport all share that same part.

The not so good news though is that all the models in the above series (plus a few others not mentioned) are rarities in their own right, as AIWA only really used this tape transport in their top and upper mid range models. Chances are if you find one to rob the part from, you will be faced with the dilemma of saving your current JX303 or repairing the second AIWA instead.
