JVC CX-R7K wont stop playing HELP!

kinglocar - 2011-10-30 18:33

Greetings,

I just had an amazing find at goodwill of a CX-R7K!  When I took it home I was sad to find that the instant the batterys are inserted, the unit will start to play in the reverse direction.  Buttons are unresponsive.   The buttons seem to do nothing, but the pause switch pause and the radio light works, but with no audio.

The Belt still looks good, there is plenty movement in both capstans and the main drive.
I would love to get this working again.  If not, Ill sell to whoever is missing one from their collection.

whack it with something gently for starter's

Would a missing screw cause this?  Im asking because the unit appears to have at least one screw that bridges power from the battery to the motor.

Their is a mode switch, I knows it a problem in the C5K, not so sure about the R7K as it uses almost the same drive assy, it located on a different spot, it on the drive assy, towards the middle  you have to remove the main PCB and then the small PCB and clean the contacts on the slider. Will do a video when I install new belt, as I have that model. That switch tell the logic what mode it's in and will cause to play but nothing else works and won't stop etheir.

Wow, that sounds like it could be it! Thanks a million. Do you have a image of where this reverse switch should be?

The two PCBs seem to be tricky to separate due to short wires connecting the two

It right under that second PCB board on the under side of the PCB, theirs fours screws holding that board in place the mode switch is right by the capston to the left of the picture, working on mines right at this time, will post video later, found another problem with it as the middle pulley is cracked.

Alright, you know your stuff! that slider is the culprit, but Ill wait for you video to make sure its all good to reassemble.  Had to really go deep into this guy.

Also, just for down the road, what belt did you buy, and where did you get it?

Sorry to hear about your tension pully, some super glue should fix that up.

Again, your the man!

Theirs a lever right by the head assy, a motor towards the other side on the head assy drives it. Part one of the video sure be coming soon, just waiting for vegas to encode it, then upload it to youtube. Part 2 will be done later when I order the capacitors mouser and digikey, figure might as well change them, as don't want to open this guy up for a while again. As far as belts I order it at part store, link below or get a assorted pack, order them thur eBay. Did get that gear glue back, just have to let the glue get to full strength and sand the excessive off.

Just want to say thanks again. I had a real "internet" moment working on this JVC at the same time as somebody eles.   This is a real sexy recorder that deserves all the work done to it.

Subscribed to your videos, Thanks!

great video! However, I lost one black wire!  You said you took pictures! Please help! This black wire is a very short one. It leaves the big board near the edge and should end up near the logic mode slider swich! I believe it is a ground between boards?  Can you help?  Thanks

dbxs - 2013-01-14 20:10

in kingLOCARS picture above you will see a fat red wire with a peice of black tape over it.  At the bottom of the black tape you see my black wire soldered. It hooks left then down to the right and into the darkness of this picture. It  almost looks like it could go to the oppsite side of the large pc board?  Help anyone?
