JVC CQ-1K >> Reverse question

tiberiu.ciocirlie - 2011-12-10 05:42

Hello! I just bought a CQ-1K cassette player from e-bay and so far I don't have a cassette to test it properly (I'll do that when I get home) but I want to ask as I am just curious right now:

when I press reverse it just spins for two seconds and then it stops as if it reached the end of the tape. is that because I didn't put a cassette there?

I thought once you press rev>> it'll keep running until you stop it?

also, not familiar with these, is it normal that after you stop the play, the spools would stop spinning, but the motor can still be heard for 2-3 sec?

do you know where can I get a spare belt from? (just in case)

and what exactly does ANRS means?

Thanks a lot!

ANRS (Automatic Noise Reduction System) was JVC's essentially Dolby-B compatible noise reduction scheme and the rest am not so certain about the reels spiing without a cassette in there

This video may be similar to your JVC in operation - I am not certain

Sony Walkman WM-10 Release's in play. Not FF or REW; Only Stops motor www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZMEBRL75HE

maybe this will give you some insight

Thanks! well yeah, I saw the video and it's almost the same, but just for reverse. Play and forward are working fine but reverse stops after 2 sec.  ...why that?

until you can play a tape i'm not sure i would worry if it still does that then it will be belts and if you're in the uk i would try here http://cpc.farnell.com/

does it have the 2 reverse modes (two way mode and repeat mode)? not sure if this is related but try doing it in both the modes and see how it behaves....some walkman tend to check for cassette (by monitoring rotation of the supply reel) in one side and not the other for some reason...maybe that depends on the reverse mode selected...(maybe the encoder is not on both the spools but on only one thats why)

Hey again! Finally got home and checked it with a cassette! And from this 'mechanical point', it works well. if you press reverse from Play you can actually 'hear' where the song goes. if you reverse from Stop it runs faster and there's no sound in the headphones. the forward is actually CUE and it's just 'pressure activated' to call it, I mean it's momentary and you can forward only from Play while keeping the button pressed, and you can also hear the tape.

The thing I found now, sadly, after testing it 'properly' it's that only one channel (left one) works. I don't know why but on the right side it's just some white noise... why that? I tried to clean the reading head and the headphone jack but with no success... any suggestion?

Thanks!
