dented rubber flywheel Sony DD - simple solution

viknl - 2012-01-10 04:24

Hello walkman loonies,

I'm new here, I found very useful info on repairing the infamous DD center wheel/gears here. Thanks for that.

So I thought I should add my own modest contribution. Maybe this is common knowledge and it is certainly very simple. But I could not find it in the forum, so here goes:

Another common problem with the DD series is the rubber ring on the flywheel. After years of lying around in a closet, this ring can be dented by the motor pulley, resulting in vibration or even a jammed mechanism. I read suggestions on finding a new ring at your local hardware/plumbing store and even cleaning/reshaping it using a lathe. It's a lot easier though to just take the rubber ring off and put it back on reversed!

Well, that was as close to rocket science as i'll ever get I hope it's helpful.

regards, Vik

edit: I think the correct term for the "flywheel" (is that even english or lousy translation on my part?) is Rotor.

My DC2's rubber ring was completely goop. Thankfully my local store sells tape recorder spares and I found a ring that fit perfectly.
