Sony WM-7 repair and remote question.

studeb - 2012-01-09 13:00

Hi,

I am trying to ressurect my WM-7.

I replaced the belt with a Sony part, and now the mechanism runs normally.

But when i plug in headphones (not the original ones) in, it starts reversing direction, back and forth.

If i remove the headphones it will continue doing this until i press stop, or remove the batteries.

Has anyone come across this before?

Also, does anyone know what resistors are in the remote for reverse and stop?

Thanks,

Yeah, I've had this before.  The motor servos get a mind of their own.

One for member Dottor Walkman I do believe

So do you know what the issue is or was?

From the description in the manual i assume its downstream of Q316, thought someone must have been here before, from what i have seen on ebay, this is a common issue.

Interesting, the output gnd is +3v over chassis. I will have to check that also.

I'll start debugging from there.

This normally occurs when you try to plug the player into your hifi
system I have not had this problem with headphones, however not all
headphones are wired the same you could try using a different pair,
I believe a special adaptor was available to prevent the continues a/rev
problem you are experiencing. I have 2 of these players 1 does a/rev
for about 5 mins then I remove the battery's put them back in and
it seems to be fine, the other unit works fine without any issues to date.
