sony wm-7 not working anymore

type2tapehead - 2012-01-22 11:17

I recently decided to give my two wm-7's there first anual inspection, only to find that one of them would'nt even power on. The capstan motors do spin for about 2 seconds but thats it, have tried fresh batterys but has'nt resolved the issue. On opening the unit i did'nt spot any obvious sign's as what is causing the prob, this very frustraiting, have been trying to fix it for 5+hrs with no success, what am i doing wrong. It was fully functional when i rapped it in bubble rap 6 mnths ago and placed it in storage, the other unit works without any probs. Maybe i should let it rest for another 6 months who knows it might repair it self(wishful thinking) any thoughts on the prob would be welcome,(sorry about my spelling it is rubbish i know) I already own 30+ units that dn't work i really hope i dn't have to add this unit to that list.

More likely a servo IC problem, bad transistor, or bad capacitors, gears are also known to shrink in that model. Do service them, at component level. Click on link below, it around $50-$100, depends on issues and parts needed? You said you also have 30 others that don't work. What are the models?
