Fix for Panasonic RQ-SX25

Hi Everyone
Just thought you'd like to hear the fun I've had fixing my RQ-SX25. It was playing ok, the capstan was pulling the tape through but the reels were not going round. I was left with a bunch of tape getting chewed up down by the head! A strip-down was needed. I wasn't looking forward to it much, you know how fiddly these modern Panasonic walkmans are. Sure enough, I had to de-solder the motor, solenoid and other terminals to separate the circuit board from the mechanics (the belts weren't too bad, but decided to replace anyway). That's when I saw this spring that wasn't attached to anything! Turns out, the black plastic ring holding the clutch mechanism together had split causing the reels to lose drive. A bit of super glue was all that was needed and it's working perfectly again.
Front of RQ-SX25
Complex minature parts
The offending black plastic cap (photo doesn't show the split very well)
Spring, clutch disc (felt clutch) and plastic cap
Solder points for motor
Solder points for tape detection / type, solenoid and battery -ve terminal
I've got a Sony WM-BF605 in bits - will let you know how that goes.
Bye for now
Matt

My panasonics split at that plastic part too- a common problem on this mechanism.

Hi, where can I get a replacement battery for this machine....just dug it out of it's box to sell it and realised the original battery has been lost in the mists of time and moving houses....cheers
Chris
