Sony wm-w800 dual cassette walkman restoration

Received this Sony wm-w800 fir repair, found some other major issues with it, playback deck servo doesn't hold speed may need new speed control IC, no audio from one of the channel, not even hiss, due to faulty dead shorted capacitors, tested the other capacitors with ESR meter and most have a increased ESR value and will need to be replaced and maybe bad transistor, or bad trace on PCB, have to trace it out, with a scope. And of course bad belts.
Here the inside look of one of these
Here the bad shorted capacitor below, you can see how the seal busted out of the bottom of the can.

Turn out to be bad capacitors and broken trace on PCB, audio works on both channels.

I have one of these with no sound (not even hiss) as well. Was the cause of yours purely the capacitors?

Panasonic made a similar walkman to these, the Panasonic RX-HD10. The differences are that the Panasonic has auto reverse on the recording deck (2) and a radio. That is one to get. Better than the Sony WM-W800.

Broken trace by capacitors and 220uf 4v capacitors cause the no audio.

I have one of these that I got when I was about 14, loved it and used it all the time. Just took it out of a box in the garage and opened it up and of course, the belts are goo. Do you have any extra belts you wood be willing to sell? If not, do you know the dimensions/size/part number? I'm pretty sure it uses a square belt that is .024 thick and about 6.5 inches long. Thanks for any help.

Like the WM-D3 the WM-800 is just one of those walkmans that you can be sure has issues whenever you find one.
Great post
