Philips dcc130 restoration "No power"

retrodos - 2012-05-10 22:50

Have the service manuel for this one so ended up Buying this dirt cheap on eBay due to won't power on was $1 dollar, plus $40 overpriced expensive shipping, was cause by a poorly made custom cable as the wire were solder in reverse and ended up killing it, even if it would have work more likely would have lost more voltage thur the cable, as it was very thin gauge, which took out a zener diode ma8100tx and another diode, lucky IC took no damage and dc-dc converter was fine, so replaced the main diode, didn't replaced the zener yet as had to order a replacement, but not really necessary as it use to stable and protect the rail, will will be replace in a day. But does power on now, but did notice the volume isn't as loud as it suppose to do 15mw plus 15mw, so took digital board out and notice thoses same dodgy capacitors that I find in aiwas, took a ESR meter to them and tested bad Here a inside look of the digital board, this is made by Panasonic. Belt also has to be replace.

After removing just lead, cleanup, as the acid took the rest, will order the rest of the caps and update.

Just replacing thoses two 220uf 4v capacitor made a big different sounds much better, no more dull lack of detail and very loud with alot of clean bass.

Ended up replaced the belt. To do so, you have to removed the second RF/Servo board PCB, not easy as you have to becareful of the ribbon cable, transport is built very well, uses two bearing for the capstans each a top and bottom bearing. This one not easy, makes d6c's look easy to repair.

These are all great retrodos, I really like the way you document your work. It's always a great read.

Replaced the rest of the capacitors the one by the power jack was the worst, capacitor just fell off pretty much so, had to extend the trace on one end, but now is a solid connection. Also replaced the zener diode. Does work great now, just have to clean and reassemble everything.

After repairs, works like new and sounds great now, bass is really good, better then most AIWA's even.

The Philips dcc-134 and dcc-170 share a similar drive mechanism ( I have these models),  were did get hold of the replacement belt from as I now require 3 of these, very hard to find in the UK, any assistance greatly appreciated.
