Yet another wm-d6c speed question warble / speed drift

Hi folks,

 I think I know the answer but just wanted to post this to confirm and add it for other folks as i couldn't find it on the site anywhere...

 I just picked up a wm-d6c spares or repairs from fleabay for £27ukp (serial 290XXX) it wasn't very happy, glue on the perspex, no ff/rew no take up spool action flaky battery bay and a leaky old BP-23. After a rebuild of the mecha all was fairly ok except sometimes on power with speed tune off (not on the rebuilt BP-23) there was a nasty warble, interestingly it didn't do it with speed tune on but speed tune wasn't accurate, it would drift very slowly. Out of interest i put it in speed set mode and it was way off, i set it by ear and within a few mins it had gradually drifted quite a long way off 25% or more so I am guessing that it becomes too far off for the quartz lock to pull it back in. It also doesn't drift as far on batteries but I am guessing that's because of the lower voltage available.

 

 I am using a 1amp 6v regulated supply (figured I needed a few extra ma for the 2100mah batteries and the lower value resistor fitted to the battery pack to speed charging a little, but its still at a 16hr rate and I disconnected charging while testing)

 Unfortunately my scope and DMM were destroyed by the kids a few months ago, I have ordered new but they wont be here for a week or two.

 

 I plan on treating it to some nice new caps, op-amps and a head (anyone got a head for sale) but wanted to get it reliable first, I presume the issue is IC601 but just wanted to check with you guys before ordering...

 

Also can anyone sell me a test tape or tell me where I can get one for reasonable money in the UK? There used to be one with a built in strobe wheel for £9.99 but cant remember what happened to it or where I got it from..

 

I am also after a set of belts for the wm-d6c, an aiwa cs-m1 (also aiwa logo and battery cover) and several full size decks, can anyone recommend someone in the uk?

My current D6C needed a mylar cap (part of the quartz lock circuit) replaced due to a similar reason. I'll check my service manual later.

It was C607, Mylar 0.0068uf, 50v, 5% tolerance. Mine is board revision 1-651-545-14. Earlier board uses a different value cap.

Hi, Is yours the model that uses the NJM2904V and CX-069A combo? mine has the cx20084 and c607 is a 47uF electrolytic going from B+ to gnd so I don't think it could cause such an issue.. where as on the NJM2904V and CX-069A combo board it is on the output of the FG amp so could drag the FG down.

Yes mine is a later SMT board model, CX069A and NJM2904V . Yours is an earlier series board. My board has the revised servo circuit. Judging from my manual, C605 seems to be in the equivalent position for yours.

 

Better wait for somebody else more familiar, try to pm rertropcdos.

Doh, yes my photocopy of the later manual isn't so good and I was looking at R607, now I have found the pdf, will try changing C605, now got to find something to rob one from thanks

You are right that C607 is a 47uf cap on your board, though.

Couldn't find one anywhere, but put it on a cap tester for 10mins and it stayed steady so should be ok, but thank you for taking time to reply to my post. Will PM Rertropcdos, cheers
