Aiwa HS-T500 walkman Restoration

retrodos - 2012-10-13 00:42

This Aiwa had some issues, one the battery door won't stay shut due to frame was bend on one corner, causing pressure on battery door plastic to crack. Had a spare parts one that was provided, to take battery door from. PCB needed recapping and transport rebuilt. Pulley were corroded and belt was no longer rubber. Also had to spary switches to clean contacts.

Had to replace motor due to bad bottom bearings,  notice it was bad when I try to check pulley before putting mainboard back and notice won't move smooth, tested and work like new at correct speed and sound great. Just to get the rest back togetheir

Hi Retrodos,
Nice job done! Wonder where do you source the tape drive motor. Notice that this type of motor is quite common in many of the Aiwa models. It's not a servo type like those used in Sony walkman.

It came from another T500, but you can take from different models, even the non logic ones, from this time period, as they use the same motor.

This series of Aiwas are my favorite, as transport is good quailty and like the look of these, better then the newer ones.
