WM-EX808 headphones adaptor

Hi, everyone! I have recently purchased a wm ex808 and am pretty impressed with its sound. However, I have found out that the earbuds it came with plug into the remote by way of a strange, proprietary plug: smaller than the typical 1/8 miniplug, it has three "stages", each comcentrically smaller thanthe previous one, and it ends in a needle-point.
Where can one get an adaptor for that type of plug to the regular 1/8, so I can listen via regular earphones or even plug it into my sound system?
The walkman has no other sound out, as far as I can tell...
Many thanks in advance,

I guess the obvious place is eBay - because of the scarcity of these things, it could mean buying a beat up parts machine. Just as long as it's complete with h/phones adapter

They don't come with adapters. That's the trick--Sony wants us to use their proprietary earbuds. I called the Sony helpdesk in the US and they gave me the old runaround: since the walkman was manufactured in Japan, they sent me to a Japanese help-site (in Japanese). As if the Sonys manufactured in China and sold in the States ought to be supported only by their Chinese counterparts...in Chinese
So I need to rely on the knowledge resources here?

You may well have to make your own headphone adapter from the ear buds. Chop off the ear buds and fit onto the end a 3.5mm diameter stereo socket.

Yeah, I was thinking of that, too. But I have had really bad luck trying to solder certain earphones wires. When they are broken, they seem to be broken for good. I am reluctant to operate on the only set of earbuds around... in the entire Mid West, for all I know.

Find someone competent with a soldering iron to do it for you? There's got to be someone in the Mid West that could do that for you.

Hello,
I needed one of these for an 808 and also to be able to use my normal headphones with some of the early 90's CD personals that had remotes with this plug on.
I bought a Sony PCM-P1S adaptor lead from ebay seller 'SONA LONDON' for £7.99 and it was an original Sony part too!
Either buy one from them or search for that part number in your region.

Thank you so much! That's exactly what I needed. But they charge 20 pounds for the shipping only! That's outrageous--three times the price of the adaptor?. Maybe one can find a supplier in the states

Here in the UK they charge £7.99 for the item and £3.00 for postage which seems a rip off too considering it weights a couple of ounces!
If you can't find one in the states I will look into the 'real' post price and see if I can get another one and send it to you for a more reasonable price. It is still going to be the best part of £18 I guess.
Let me know how you get on.

Thank you, NickFish. That would be just dandy. I am still looking around, but if push comes to shove, I'll take you up on your kind offer. Do you have a paypal account? Let me know the total in weakly dollars?
Best,
March

Got it from England. The whole thing came to something like 30 bucks. A shameless rip off, but what can you do?
