any idea where to get replacements?

Would you be able to post pics (or post a link to something similar on the net)? It you're in the U.K. then try CPC Farnell...

It's the gold domed surface mount click button that you get in the Sony Walkman I believe they're a standard size. Yes I'm in the uk. Cpc have buttons but they don't look the same.

If you have no luck getting a replacement either from a scrap unit or from a parts shop, you could try carefully peeling back the adhesive tape and reforming the domed shape of the metal contact over a small glass or hard plastic bead before fitting it back with a fresh layer of sticky tape.

yeah tried it, but these do need swapping. the previous user pressed so hard that the button has pierced the dome affecting its integrity. it no longer clicks.

however, ive found the replacements. 4.8mm square 1/2mm height SMT tactile switch....3 quid for 50!

haha

Ahh... those are a different type altogether. I was thinking of the type where they are stuck to the PCB with clear adhesive tape.

Still these could be dismantled for the domed metal part to use if the original switch is the type I first thought.

im hoping itll be a straightforward desolder/fit/solder job. But i bet itll end up in some heavy duty swearing.
