Measuring walkman audio quality - new article

walkman.archive - 2012-12-07 14:23

Hi there,

I'm back with a new article in my walkman website, about how do I measure audio quality in walkmans.

It's been many months of personal research (with the special help of Dr Walkman and Tuna) until I found a good way to test the audio quality of a walkman that satisfies me.

Basically, first I did self test my equipment to be sure that I'll be doing good measurements, and

second, I prepared a reference tape to make the measures. First real test, full of info, very soon!

Please enjoy the article (www.walkman-archive.com > Articles).

Any comments will be welcome.

Cheers,

beautiful site, in the first place. i enjoyed your excellent article a lot, because it is nicely written and also because it provides food for thought. in the first place, it offers a methodology for research. secondly, it translates research into (literally) graphic details, which are accessible also to those who have zero knowledge of acoustics and electronics. last but not least, it reads like a narrative in installments. wonderful! i can't wait to read the next one

Putting it simply...if there is one thing better than the walkman it is the 'walkman archive'

Love the professionalism(you make the hobby look way too good) and dedication to details like your articles and photographs. Keep it going strong!

Well, finally I updated and published my first walkman review with audio tests for the AIWA G08, and a new article explaining what's every graph for and how you can read them.

For the review, go to www.walkman-archive.com > Gallery > AIWA > AIWA G08, and for the article, go to Articles section of the website.

Hope you enjoy them.

Alot of effort and nice article. Alot of different walkmans to be compared to.

great reading! actually, what i liked best was the human element  going against the grain of the scientific method, your subjective evaluations are --paradoxically-- the most interesting aspect of your review. maybe because it's taste, not efficiency, that drives everybody toward passions.

to avoid misunderstandings: of course, technology helps us evaluate data in a fairly accurate, 'objective' way. and, of course, you did a great analytical job. yet, even for the fastidious researcher it's coolness and the beauty of design that, eventually, turn the AIWA G08 into the great unit it is --especially for all of us who love it

Thanks again.

It's been very interesting to build up this article and I'm glad that you like it. Hope this helps spread the word that the walkman is old, but not a sardine can, as many peple thinks when comparing to a MP3
