Trying to fix a Panasonix RQ-SX25

enryfox - 2012-12-22 01:24

Hi, I recently bought on ebay a Panasonic RQ-SX25; overall it looks in very good conditions, but it has some problems:

1) while playing tapes it emits a sound as if a gear is rubbing against something

2) wow and flutter are rather high

i've disassembled the walkman hoping to find something broken, but it actually looks fine (see pictures); even the central white clutch gear is intact and nothing seems out of place. Any suggestion ?

As a side note: when the tape is being FF or RWD, there is a direct transmission between the capstan and the tape reel; the only element acting as a clutch is the main belt and when the tape is fully RWD'd the walkman emits a rather "painful" sound until it stops. Is that how it is supposed to work ?

thanks

bye

Board members  Antun,Costin Dan ,Cooldude, Fotis & Gutman have mended their Panasonics quite successfully and would be most willing to help you out. Retrodos should be able to help out too if required.

best wishes

Is the clutch gear slipping freely? Check the pinch rollers for dents and any resistance in the supply reel.

Manually engaging the play mode (i.e. moving the grey solenoid lever so that so the black gear does a 1/3 turn) the clutch correctly engages and it slippers if required.

I tried manually spinning the motor flywheel but with all the gears moving I could not hear anything unusual, it is all very quiet. I'm waiting for a new belts set and when I will fully re-assemble the walkman I'll check if any gear is rubbing against the PCB.
