Service Manual for WM-5 or WM-2

charles - 2013-01-28 11:42

I am looking for a service manual for Sony Walkman WM-5.  I am going to try replacing the belt on it.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks!

Hi Charles,

look at this topic....

How to disassemble sony wm-f5?

The WM-F5 is COMPLETELY different mechanically from the WM-5.   F5 is Direct Drive by gears no belt.  WM-5 is belt driven.   I have changed belts on the WM-5 it is fairly simple and a good sounding machine.   Tricky part is the door latch as there is a small spring behind it easy to fly out when you try to remove the front cover.  Its been several years since had apart.  Front cover lifts up from bottom then slide upward slightly to get over the headphone jacks.  Think you remove the door also.  Have to remove screws holding PCB board in lift up enough to get belt on with de soldering wires.  Here some pics I had when did.  work on white towel and diagram where each screw comes out and place on diagram so it goes back same .  Also draw belt path so you get new belt on properly.   Take time and dont force things.

Thanks for the pictures John.  They help a lot in seeing how the belt is configured.  I found a manual for the Walkman WM-DD (knowing it was not belt driven, but probably close enough in design to assist me with re-assembly).

Re-installation of the spring was the most confusing part until I found that manual.

I've been waiting on a replacement belt to arrive, and it should be here today, so I'll post pictures when I get it installed and put back together.  Thanks again for responding!

Here is the finished product.  I got the belt replaced last night and put back together.  Thanks for the help.  I'd still love to have a copy of the service manual for the WM-5.

I like the WM-5 the best, followed by WM-F5 then WM-2.
