On my Sony Sports model the screw holes are hidden behind some mini blanking plates...

Ah yes but the REAL question is how do you remove the surface plugs without damaging the case around the plug. You cant put a pin or sharp tip knife to pry out as that marks the casing plastic.

If you have access to those little vacuum pumps that are used to bleed auto brakes lines with it might work, I have one and have used it for a lot of things and it will suck (30 lbs. psi. vacuum?. COOPER.

Based on Nak D's information, I have loosed 4 screws around the base cover of my wm-f5 walkman. But i still can't seperate the mechanic part from the cover. It seems both are still connected by volume wheel, FM tuning wheel and phonejacks. This is just my guess. Does any one know how to seperate the mechanic part from the base cover (see the atteched image)?

I used a very thin bladed knife and went slowly and carefully, no major issues encountered, although JonhEdward is correct, it wouldn't be difficult to cause damage. In fact when loosened you could try lifting them out using sellotape!
EDIT: @ sonywmf5 I've just re-inspected my WM-75. There appears to be 7 screws inside the main compartment, I'm sure it's these (although maybe not all) that have be undone.

Hi Nak D, do you have the experience of sony wm-f5? I have already taken out 4 screws from the holes successfully. But the problem now is that i still can't take apart the set. I want to repair the gear inside. Now only one side was seperated a little by force. Another side seems to stick firmly possibly due to the volume wheel and tuning wheel of this side.

It's ages since I took this beast apart but I think the access screws are shown here, I've just marked the ones that look correct with red circles...sorry if there are hard to see! These were the only screws I needed to undo...I'll take more shots if needed Also sorry no experience of Sony wm-f5. Well not yet .

Hi Nak D, Thanks for your valuable information. But I am afraid if the black metal plate is removed first, some small parts on its back side would fall off automatically, and can not be restored to their original positions when being installed. Do you remember if you had such situation when took apart your wm-f75? If ok, I will follow your advice to take apart my wm-f5.
Thanks again.

As mentioned before my WM is the WM-75, not the WM-F75! You may have to watch out for soldered wires that restrict your movement whilst the unit is apart. Be careful not to yank these out. I don't remember any parts falling off when opening the unit.
Your model is different to mine...but I hope the following may inspire you to take a careful look around inside

Hi Nak D, for your wm-75, the PCB board and mechanical deck can be taken out together from the plastic case. I will try my wm-f5 by following the same procedure. Thank you very much.

Yesterday i took my wm-f5 apart, and luckely i found this lead here.
i finished it, and have some advises.
the knob of the radio-frequenty have to come off, you can just pull it off.
the volume knob also have to be removed, this could only be done removing the plate with the "small to getting bigger dots-plate" on top of the knob, underneath this plate you will find a screw you have to remove.
inside the walkman, i removed all the black screws on the black plate, but!: dont remove the one in place of the frequenty-roll beneith it, for it will drop lose!! ( i had to install it, which was not this big problem)
now you can gently pull the mechanics out; be aware, it wont get out, but no fear....
inside at the headphone-jacket, the mechanics are glued in with a silicone.
i have pulled and cut the silicones, you will have to!
now you have the mechanics out.
i did unscrew the print-plate wich was mounted with 4 screws.
tested it, and now, with a little help, the motor did run (it didn't before!).
look underneath the brass fly-wheel ( first unscrewing its top-plate),there you will see a rubberband mounted.
i fliped te rubberband on the flywheel, so the unused side of it will connect to the motor. tested the working of the walkman.
it now runs smoothly, only with old worn-out tape's it will shutt of pretty easely.
i also did demagnatise the head and gave it a good clean, but it still sounds a bitt dozy.
but now, beside my other walkmans,i also enjoy my black wm-5!
i hope i did help you a bit with my experience,
Snow.

Hi snow, your instruction is correct.
I took apart my wm-f5 before saw your post. I did not notice there is a screw inside the volume knob. I used a big force to pull it off. Fortunately no damage occured. Next i'll try to rapair a cracked gear wheel, and also to fix a problem why the magnetic head can not be lifted up to touch the tape.

Funny why they labelled S303 EQ on the PCB but on the deck as Tape. Really they should just labelled it PB EQ like they did it on the WM-F1. Also, one can't switch Dolby and PB EQ while the tape is playing, which it is kind of a stupid design, they should just go ahead with ATS systems used in the WM-F75 and 1990's Walkmans.
