AIWA JX-303 restoration

retrodos - 2013-03-12 19:42

Had to replaced all capacitors due to they were missing as someone removed them and gave up on this one, flex cable was also desolder. Lucky had another AIWA JX-303 to repair to see what value capacitors. Also had to replaced a bad TA7688F iC due to no display or functions as IC was shorted was burned as seen in picture and two bad transistor by reel sensor. Now works like new again. Did reinstall the ground wires that were missing.

Are these pictures before or after your repairs?

There are a couple of points to note with the JX30/303.

There are a couple of points to note with the JX30/303.

  • There is an error on the screen printing on the PCB, which could lead to the incorrect placing of some components
  • Depending on the revision of the PCB, there may or may not be a ground wire installed at the factory by AIWA

Was after, except for IC as wanted to show what a blown one looks like, as someone remove the capacitors. Was wondering about ground wire installed at the factory, but did look like someone removed it? Incorrect screen printing, do you remember where and what revision?

Photo below shows the orientation of the top left two capacitors before they were removed.

You can confirm their correct orientation by testing for continuity to ground.

As to the extra wires, I have seen this on the JL30/303, JX30/303, PL50/505, and RL50. Not all boards always seem to have them. AIWA were not very good at labeling board revision numbers on their screen printing.

Is this the model that has a bi-directional/dual azimuth adjustment? Two screws against two springs on the left and right sides?

Yes

Just like I've seen with some cassette decks.

Thanks

I see where that 47uf 4v capacitor was backwards, will now be corrected.
