Sony WM-D6C not recording anymore

blouis - 2013-03-01 02:53

Hi! My Sony WM-D6C (serial no. 31728) was working just fine, until it suddenly stopped accepting any audio in signal in recording mode. The mechanics seems to work - the unit plays, pauses, fast forwards and rewinds without any hassle. But when I put it in record mode, I can't monitor any audio input. Neither from the line in or the mic jack. VU meter doesn't light up either. And when I let the tape run (rec), it doesn't record any sound.

I'm really not that handy with electronic repairs, I usually just replace a broken belt or so. Opened up the unit to look for disconnected cables or burned out parts, but couldn't find anything of that.

Anyone have an idea of what might be the problem with my WM-D6C? Really enjoy using it as a musician, so would love to get it back in working order.

Thanks,
Gus

hi!

first of all, did you get the service manual ?

do you have an oscilloscope ?

a multimeter ?

No, I don't have those instruments, haven't got that much experience/knowledge in electronics.

But I've found out that the problem with my WM-D6C seems to be a mechanical issue after all. There's is a switch on the main board wich says "REC <-> PB", wich controls the audio routing. The record button is supposed to mechanically flip this switch when pressed, but  it doesn't. Now I just have to find a way in to this machine... I have the service manual allready, thank you!
