Aiwa hs-px 101

whitenoise - 2013-03-27 09:58

Hi

I have an Aiwa Hs-px 101 that needs a new belt i think ? it all powers up and lights up then nothing. Its been in storage for 15 years so i would imagine that is the problem .

I  am feeling a bit nostalgic about it ,and apparently it was the best sound Aiwa made . I remember it cost a fortune at the time ! I would like to compare it with my phone sound wise. I also found a dozen new unopened  Thats Mrx pro tapes . amazing what can be found lying around forgotten

Anybody know if belts are available ?   Or is it the bin ??

 Thanks in advance ...

You can't be serious about bining such hi end Walkman, try to fix it first, if your not successful put it on the net. Everyone needs a hs-px101 in their collection(at least one, I have 2), one when for £40 I think quite some time ago here in UK and it was untested unit only. Good luck with the fix.

I wasn't actually serious about the bin , It would probably go back in the cupboard . But i am quite confident of getting it working .

Interested in seeing picture's of your Walkman and

of the 12 Cassette's ( That's - brand ) that you have

Here is a weird thing! Whilst waiting for a new belt to turn up i got it working with the old one a bit (after cleaning it has a little grip) .

It plays fine although timing is all over the place ,but when i hit the reverse button rather than playing the other side it just plays the same side backwards ??   Any ideas ?

Yup.

There is a tiny little switch on one corner. When you reassembled it you didn't align the metal armature that controls playback direction with this switch.

whitenoise - 2013-04-07 11:32

Might be why its not working properly,it is not assembled fully, back sides and board still off!

where is this little switch exactly? i cant find it .

If you could point me in the right direction from my picture i would be greatfull .

  Thanks ..

A well liked unit from Aiwa (not least by me), at a golden time for the Walkman. I remember the high calibre & wide range of competing products when I was choosing a Walkman with about £120 to spend in 1987...

Do you have the headphones that came with it (Aiwa HP-MR1)? The have a remote on the & also sound excellent.

I have a pair on right now, still using them daily, plugged into the work PC...

ball000 - 2014-10-10 02:48

I also have the HP-MR1 headphones but they came without foams... Do you know of a trusted source for those or at least foams that fit?

isolator42 - 2014-10-10 06:04

Because I work in IT, there are lots of those PC headsets around. I find one with foams of the right size (the foam needs to be thin), & order some spares.

Another way to go is to find some very cheap headphones with foams that'll fit.

A wile back, Tesco used to sell some at £3 a go so I bought them (I even bought some for Walkgirl  ).

There are lots of cheap banded headphones out there, & some will have foams that'll fit.

These might (don't know for sure):

My advice would be to take the Aiwas shopping with you to hold next to some headphones in a store. Then either buy them or get the same ones cheaper on line, if possible.

These look close as well...

Thank you isolator42, good advice!
