JVC CX-10

plop - 2011-05-21 08:32

This is a walkman that I received from Japan. It is quite compact, and similar in size to a cassette case. It was previously not working, but I have given it a basic over haul and it functions. I have cleaned the heads, capstan and rollers. The head has also been demagnetised.

The CX-10 has quite a unique control function - a single key to operate all the tape movement functions. This control function is also repeated on the in-line remote controller as part of the headphones, as also seen on many Panasonic models.

Cosmetically the CX-10 is in good condition. There are a number of scratches on the back panel of the case, and there is one screw head that has been damaged holding the front panel to the hinge - but this does not prevent the screw from keeping both parts attached to each other. The paint lacquer has worn off in a couple of indiscreet places, but this is barely noticeable under certain viewing angles.

There is one mechanical flaw with this unit. It will need the rollers replaced. Both rollers have suffered deformation due to the capstan pressing against them for a prolonged period time. The reverse direction roller is the worst and this does affect playback in said direction. Forward direction plays fine without issue despite this however.

Acoustically, there are no issues with the CX-10 and Dolby, S-Bass, SLC all function as intended.

The JVC CX-10 features the following :

Ultra compact size

Single button control

Auto reverse

Dolby B

Normal / CrO2 tape selection

S-Bass

SLC (Sound Leakage Canceller)

Remote control via headphones (not supplied)

Items included

Battery caddy for 1xAA battery

I am previewing this item on S2G and if there is no interest here then I will eventually list it on eBay probably only for UK bidders. Anyone interested here should PM me with bids.
