This is a very highend AIWA stereo cassette recorder walkman, also has a very unique feature, that I really haven't seen so far called "quick reverse" instead of auto reverse, it uses a optical sensor to detected the tape leader then switch sides, so you don't miss anything while recording.  

I know people are going to say that a high price, but paid well over $400 with over 42 bidders for this one, when I bought it. But no point in having two of them, so one goes for sale for $375 to fund others, that I don't have!!

this model were made identical 5: hs-jx 819/839/859/950/959, some have AM stereo and others do not have the feature that you mentioned (quick reverse). not to mention that some of them have remote control with LCD.

I have the AM stereo version of this guy, they only made a couple of models, as AM stereo wasn't popular and expensive, as you needed different decoder chip, as they could never get the AM standard down and by the time FCC step in, was to late.

Sony d6c as far as recorders go and DD9 were the best built as far as Sony. Aiwa goes the JX505 and JX929 that was, It also came with Dolby C, BBE, amorphous head that was bi-azimuth alignment and voice navigation, TV Band, AM stereo and is the most advanced ever made and the one I still use. Then comes the HS-PX1000.

None of the JX929 models came with bi-azimuth alignment. In fact AIWA phased out bi-azimuth during the course of manufacturing the JX505 model. I should know as I have both the JX929 and the early bi-azimuth version of the JX505 All later high end models were fixed azimuth at the factory when manufactured.

Your right the the JX505 was the last to feature bi-azimuth, that feature is for the JX505, the JX929 after Sony took over and omitted it out, the older JX303 has it to, as I have most the the HS JX series and various worldwide versions of theses.

But we are both wrong on this one, the 1994 HS-RS910 and Japan version JX70 has the bi-azimuth head. 

You mean the 1994 HS-RX910 aka the HS-RX70 in Japan, which is based on a 0ZM transport? It is unlikely to have bi-azimuth, but please show me photos as I am keen to be proven wrong.

I also have a Japanese JX70, which is basically a rest of world JX707 and no it doesn't have bi-azimuth head either.

I will once I get my Canon L lens later this week, do a picture accross various model around that era, as I found out that the JX505 doesn't have bi-azimuth, as I am changing the capacitors on one right now and just has the metal stud, no pin.  

Yes, I am very keen to see a bi-azimuth JX70 and RX910 as that would mean that AIWA made some very radical changes to the 0ZM tape transport in order to do away with this feature, and you would have yourself some very rare items indeed!

Yup, your JX505 that you are currently would appear to be a later production model without the bi-azimuth mech as those with the bi-azimuth mechanism have a contact pin poking through said metal stud directly connected to the HX head.

I have pretty much seen all the pre 1991 models that feature the bi-azimuth mechanism and am more interested in seeing any post 1991 high end models that you have which feature the bi-azimuth mechanism.

buddy, because these models 505 and jx2000 not come with the MS music search feature? although the Panasonic already had this feature intelligent .... the sony then only in 1995 with wm-gx510 ..... do miss this feature in the older models .... what do you think?

The very good AIWA HS-PX101 from 1987 has music search if it has to be an old AIWA you want.

correct your information! I was forgetting this brilliant model - I regret not having bought it on Ebay last year! came to me yesterday a panasonic rq-sx70f, but it seems very fragile! the ability to search for music TPS is fast! you like the Panasonics? let me know ....
