I guess it's ready to put some new capacitors in it.

bub - 2012-03-07 17:19

Imagine tearing the trace on that. @#$!

radio.raheem - 2012-03-07 17:45

Can't belive...i actually disposed of one of these a few years ago

plop - 2012-03-07 22:56

Ahhh shoot! The cat's out of the bag now. All manner of bods are gonna be bidding on this.

minty - 2012-03-08 00:08

You were hoping to keep it quiet plop? Game of poker now. 500+ I reckon.

plop - 2012-03-08 00:41

Well, it's on the 'bay so is fair game for all and so will probably will go for 900€ in the end anyway. But if the buyer doesn't know how to repair or know of someone to repair it for them, then it's only just an expensive pretty titanium box at the end of the day.

Same here RR and I still have the remote for it somewhere.

retrodos - 2012-03-08 21:24

"Technically it's 100% perfect (but is not tested)".

Walkman has been taken out of the box only for the photos.

Walkman is not tested (but i have no reasons to think that it doesn't work) so is sold "as is" and i offer no warranty or return for this item.

Buyer beware, the above alone sure make you run, or just not bid?  If not then this info will...For those that are not familiar with most aiwa's from this era, or technically knowledgeable. This model has known issues with having a bad belt that turn to goo and bad capacitors and in some cases the corrosive electrolyte can eat Thur the traces, making it very difficult to repair, or a very expensive paper weight, or lamp? Except I don't think this will light up the area? Plus how hard is it to insert a battery in it to test before selling it? Especially being he took the time to open the box to take the pictures and did a great job, which had to take some effort? He knows it doesn't work, but of course plays stupid so it can fetch a higher price, from some buyer that doesn't know any better.

The only thing going for it is that it in the box. If you look at the third picture you will see the battery holder slightly open, so pretty sure the seller tested it!!

Maybe about 3 years ago, or not on eBay, or that it was so badly listed on eBay that no-one saw it.

In the last few years certain individuals on eBay have been purposely driving up prices on this particular model both in buying them up and on resale when the received items do not meet their perceived expectations.

We are a wright pair retro

plop - 2012-03-10 13:44

461€ Wow, just wow. Some people have deep pockets.

minty - 2012-03-10 15:01

Mine are deep, but empty!

pawel - 2012-03-10 17:48

retro,
you've mentioned about having a remote for px100 somewhere
is there any chance you would sell it ?  - for a fair price of course
or trade at least - I have a spare kidney.....

minty - 2012-03-11 10:27

I see this one on taobao for 7000 Yuan. About 840 euro. Nice markup.

plop - 2012-03-11 10:34

Nice scam in the making more like.

minty - 2012-03-11 10:50

Perhaps you are right. This seller has used the same pictures from the eBay auction.

retrodos - 2012-03-11 11:31

More likely the seller shill bid up the item, hoping to get a higher price then outbid himself at the end and is now trying to sell it elsewhere. Notice that the same bidder place a bid for 25 euro, for only 5 euro max early in the auction, then place a bid at the end and won. Most serious bidders don't do that as they don't want to start bid wars, or that early in the auction Most bids are place within the last day of the auction, even within the last hour to few seconds, reason why I snipe the auctions now for max amount based on willingness to pay and avoid playing the games.

The only problem is, we will never know for sure as professional seller's knows the rules and cover themselves very well, using proxy servers to log into 100's of different account, or using friends and will actually pay for the item and leave feedback. Alot of millionaires are behind these accounts, it bigger business, then most are aware of!! Especially in baseball cards, I won't even get into the scams I seen pulled on that subject top rated seller's sell fake cards with real certificate of authenticity. But this goes with anything consider rare and collectables.

In short no serious collector going to bid that much for a "AS-IS" item, especially being this one has alot of known issue and would hope the collector would know that, or ask questions. It would have to be sealed, which means box never open, then it's worth alot more for that reason only. If their was this many real bidders, I won't bother to do buy-it-now, just do auctions, the only ones bidding right now, are deal seekers, so they can resell themseft. You get more with a "BIN" I know I try both with same models to test the waters. I pickup mine PX1000 for $90 with box off ebay and was new, but seller was honest and said it had issues in the listing. This guy wasn't, just hope it wasn't a real buyer that expecting it to work. If he get left a positive quickly, Then I know it was fixed auction.

The winner of the eBay auction is a seasoned eBayer of AIWA walkmans from Germany whereas the seller is from Italy, so I do not think there is anything underhand going on. As to why the newbie buyer would go to such extremes to try and buy this, but then stop short at the end to cover his winning position. Maybe it is the seller fronting the sale through a second account or perhaps it is just an inexperienced newbie buyer trying his luck and losing out when the winning bidder placed a way much greater amount than the second place bidder.

I speculate that the new owner of that boxed PX1000 does view this forum, but chooses not to actively participate in discussions.

The taobao listing is suspicious though, as it would seem odd that this item would appear so conveniently soon after the ending of the ebay auction. I mean it is unlikely the new owner would have received his item yet, and equally unlikely the seller on taobao has a PX1000 in the exact same condition, such that his photos are the same as those of the ebay auction. Besides if the taobao owner genuinely had a boxed example, then he would better serve his item by supplying actual photos of the item he intends to sell.

I'm not sure if I still have it pawel. I'll give it another try when I do some cleaning.

minty - 2012-03-13 15:30

9000 Yuan now. Inflation eh!

plop - 2012-03-13 23:31

I guess 7,000 Yuan was just not enough if you are a greedy lazy scammer.

plop - 2012-03-18 13:49

Here's another boxed one. Makes the scam one seem a bargain at a snip for ¥9,000 Yuan.

Or if you don't fancy the box to clutter up the place there's always this not so cheap one too.

plop - 2012-06-27 05:27

So it looks like after 3 months of owning a NOS mint PX1000, our winning bidder decided to sell it on as it had a few faults they could not figure out how to fix.

http://www.ebay.de/itm/3209187...6_fvi%3D1&_rdc=1

Turned a 120€ profit after a few months. Not bad.

plop - 2012-07-27 10:02

Looks like this PX1000 is cursed or something.

3

The buyer that paid 461€ just can't seem to get rid of it.

http://www.ebay.de/itm/ws/eBay..._cvip=true&rt=nc

1

So he's now having another go

http://www.ebay.de/itm/AIWA-HS...;hash=item4aba4b931c

2

But with a starting price of 429€ (649€ BIN), maybe he isn't that desperate to get rid of it.

retrodos - 2012-07-27 11:18

More likely figure it was broken. Hopefully he dIdn't have a poor attemped at fixing and failed?

Hate when people are to lazy, or just refuse to ship outside their region, so don't see this going anywhere soon.

radio.raheem - 2012-07-28 19:52

Had a new one of these back in the day....it diddn't even sound that good then.....digital eq's just dont cut it.....the px 101 sounds much better....but the digital eq was a nice touch...

toaster05 - 2013-08-29 11:22

I do have one of these that I'm looking to sell. I need to test it first though. Boxed with the case but unfortunately no remote.

The unit itself is in pretty good nick though.

martymcfly - 2013-09-03 07:53

I am very interested in the unit with the box.  What would you be asking for it?  We can do a direct sale an avoid ebay all together.  PM me
