SONY WM-701T Tiffany&Co. EDITION!

silencio2 - 2012-07-16 05:54

Ladies and gentlemen,

It's been a while (I was on this site some time ago under username 'Silencio' but lost all passwords etc). Before I put the walkman on eBay once again (eBay Germany, member 'recollector') I'll show it here so I'll check the feedback and have a word or two about the thing. Note that this is very reluctant sale and we all know the prices will only go up....

Here we have probably the rarest walkman on Earth: Silver plated SONY WM-701T TIFFANY & Co. Edition. Only 250 Sony WM-701T walkman were ever made. This one comes with complete accessories, packed in beautiful wooden box with a lock. Optically – with exception of some light traces of use, in very good condition - only the Walkman body itself has a bit of silver coating gone from the corners. Box is mint, comes with a little key and lock works 100%. Technically – Walkman lights up but doesn’t work – almost certainly belts. No problem for someone with skills. There are NO cracks, tears, dents, holes, loose or missing parts. Maybe walkman doors are a bit loose. Battery compartment is clean.

ORIGINAL OWNER WAS A FAMOUS COMPOSER FROM USA.

THIS IS PROBABLY THE ONLY CHANCE IN A LIFETIME FOR SOMEONE TO OWN THIS BEAUTIFUL AND RARE WALKMAN. REMEMBER – ONLY 250 EXIST IN THE WHOLE WORLD. AND THIS IS NO FAKE – IT’S THE REAL THING.

Hello Corry, thank you for your suggestion, I sent you an email.

Best regards, Primoz P.

Did you purchase this one Corry?

corry - 2012-07-22 02:58

No, he will no accept paypal, but maybe next week!

minty - 2012-07-22 03:07

Off course he is right. PayPal is a rip-off. All they are good for is screwing people. They even screw you with exchange rates. They make the rates up themselves. Bank transfer is the best way to accept payment for an item. And it's free!

minty - 2012-07-22 03:20

At least Dick Turpin wore a mask!

I agree PayPal is a rip especially when it comes to exchange rates, but bank transfers are not the solution either. At least not for people who you don't know or necessarily trust when considering large sums of money. As far as charges go, bank transfers are free from one bank to another domestically in UK, but once we start wanting to send money abroad then they have been even more expensive than PayPal in my experience.

The trick to getting cheaper PayPal transactions is load up the PayPal account first from a bank transfer and then once that money clears send the money. Sending the money with PayPal without notice especially via a credit card will cost a fortune in charges.

ao - 2012-07-22 05:12

He's right

minty - 2012-07-22 05:50

I agree. Bank transfer is fine for small amounts. There are no charges for instance when transferring money to another country in the European union. They do however charge to transfer different currencies. As regards PayPal, I bought my 701T for 3000 dollars. I checked the exchange rate, and it worked out at just over 2420 euro. PayPal charged me over 2500 euro. That is just daylight robbery!

If he can not accept PayPal caution is called for.
Under no circumstances would I send the money with bank transfer, not even to a shipping company that he chooses.

Hi, both ways of payment have of course some flaws... But it depends on amount, country, currencies etc...

I made transactions on ebay until now only via bank transfer because in my country I simply can't receive payments to my paypal account with my existing credit card! I know this way I also reduced number of my potential buyers and of course final value of sold items. So recently I opened another account on another bank which seems to allow transfers via paypal both ways - in about one week I'll be able to test it.

About bank transfer - it's totally understandable that you can't just trust to anyone, except if you have 100% feedback on ebay (which I, luckily, have at least until now).

For extremely valuable items, I would recommend personal collection. Of course the distance can be a problem...

I agree with Renzgi. If it's no Paypal, I steer away. I know they're not the best but for me the shipping costs are the ridiculous costs in any transaction, not the exchange rate.

Either way it seems like silencio2 is making a good move....good luck on the sale!

Hello everyone,

Just a short note that I activated my PayPal so there are now both options for payment if this thing sells. But still a reluctant sale!

Greetings!

Really? $3k for an old walkman, no matter how nice is a little hard to swallow. But thanks anyway
