Welcome to S2G.   Great clear photographs.   Nice to see someone keeps all the original items.  Very good little player have one and up till a year ago used it for recording meetings.   Good luck with eBay auction.

thanks for the warm welcome, je!

i've been getting some questions about testing, so i found a new cassette to test with. here are some more size comparison pics:

sold @ $32.25

200 views, 19 watchers.

i don't mind someone getting a steal and holding up my end of the deal. especially, if the new owner would value it and care for it. however, the buyer is planning to just give this thing away as $30 gift.

...truly disheartening

my fault for listing the item for the 2 fridays before labor day.

i wonder (conservatively) how much i paid for this lesson? at minimum wage i think i may have barely paid for my time with pics and (uselessly) translating the instruction manual. oh well.

I think the problem is that this model today is nowhere nearly as desirable as you'd think. Despite being one of the better late models, the SX series, it is a little too modern and generic looking compared to the more desirable earlier 80s- early 90s machines.

This walkman came out around the time CDs had already taken off and there was less innovation and development done on the soon to be obsolete cassette player.

Secondly it's not a Sony. It's a shame because the condition is otherwise nearly perfect.

DANG! Why did I miss this

I would have given you double that

whatwhat808 - 2012-09-03 23:30

srsly, i never thought it would break any records.
how can anyone have memories (or desire) about a player that never even came to the states?

that's why i charged shipping at cost, did no reserve, and started the bidding at $1;
hoping someone would get a good deal and give it a caring home.

imagining going as a novelty gift and hitting the floor, i had a real sick stomach feeling and was just in shock.

i'll get over it. i took the haircut, just need to come to terms with it.

Hi whatwhat808 (what?)

Sorry to hear your auction didn't meet your expectations.  We have to be realistic when listing old walkmans.  As per any auction the success of the listing depends entirely on whether someone who wants it is able to see it.  And what you have here is a reasonably rare mid range unit from a period after the walkman was a truly great thing to own & from one of the lesser manufacturers, it was always going to be a risk.
