Cheap Sony WM-DC2 - use caution

looks well cheap - item looks more battered than the seller makes out

i'm tempted - yet also weary

An example of an early DC2 with the metal door release catch visible in a couple of the really poor quality photos.

Is the seller hiding something? Who in the world doesn't have access to a couple of AA batteries if they wanted to test something like this to sell it?

the seller has 100% of positive feedback. on the other hand i hate when people say "i have not tested it... etc" either because they have no tapes or no time. it's an offence to the buyer's intelligence, so prepare to buy a non-working item. the big if of course is the nature of the problem, easily solvable or fiendishly impossible? you're right the item is tempting. good luck if you decide to bid (in that case of course i hope i am wrong with my speculations)

i'll give you a few tips, as i have learned myself the hardest way how to defend from dishonest sellers:

1. email him and ask him precise questions, see how he answers. vague answers to precise questions are always suspect

2.check the average prices of the other electronic stuff he has sold in the past and see if they fit in with the cheap price of the sony

3. compare photos/videos of past items with their verbal description and see if also in the past there were discrepancies. if not, i would be very careful with the wm (remember his 100% positive feedback)

this may not save you from a potential fraud, but should reduce the risk a bit

Hmmmmm.

I'd leave it, these aren't rare and I think you'd much prefer something cosmetically better

The newer ones are certainly not that rare, but the older ones with the extra curved amorphous heads are. The grub screw of the first generation head can just be made out in one of the photos.

Shame the photos are not better and a judgement call can be taken on the state of the head too. Given the questionable state of this particular example, it would only be worth buying for parts to restore an early release DC2.

My DC2 started out worse than this... and +1 on the parts unit, if you can't get it to work, it can be a good parts source.

I'll second plop on this, looks like a curved head.

I wasn't aware of the curved head diffrerence.

I don't suppose anyone could provide comparative pictures?

I use to have one of these but I gave it away as thanks for someone fixing my other DC2’s.

The head is very curvy in it's shape.

I will check when I get home just in case I still have one like this.
