Sony WMD-DT1 Walkman/DAT Player

frqncy - 2012-09-12 01:56

Sony WMD-DT1 Walkman/DAT player.

Condition Details:
Purchased many many years ago and has seen less than 10 hours of use; this due in part to the loss of something small that flew out of the battery compartment in a dark venue and key to keeping the battery door shut. 12 years later I figured out a quick fix for the battery door; a thin black velcro strap keeps the door closed, batteries engaged, and unit working. Would be better if it was fixed by Sony but the velcro strap does work.

Overall physical condition is like new. Unit is a well made quality piece of equipment. Case is shiny and clean (except for the battery door issue). Comes with a tethered remote control unit, stereo mini-jack connector cable and digital version of owner’s manual.

Product Description:
The WMD-DT1 is Sony's smallest and lightest portable DAT Player (Playback only model) with no recording abilities. Compact design for portability, 1 bit DAC (Digital-to-Analog Converter with 8x oversampling) for clear sound reproduction. LCD display remote controller displays the information recorded on DAT tapes. Two LR6 (size AA) batteries (not supplied) enable four-hours of playback. Music scan function plays first eight seconds of each track. Repeat play function per rack. AMS (Automatic Music Sensor) function easily locates the beginnings of tracks. Added features include Mega Bass, automatic music search, date function, two speed settings (SP/LP), digital volume limiter system and music scan mode.

This is almost but not quite on my Walkmen to own before you die list. It would just be an occasional high end plaything. Unessential, yet a thing of Portable Retro Goodness.

Yes they can be a pain I guess. Analogue tape, hell analogue anything doesn't just switch off when there's a problem; digital is either on or off, no grey areas. At least with analogue telly, radio and tape the sound/picture didn't just die if the signal was a bit ropey! Claret, what DAT stuff you using at the moment?

I got a Panasonic SV3800

2 x Sony DTC 57ES

Sony TCD D3

Sony TCD D7

Hi Lauren,

This item is no longer available, it was bought by me in September 2012. Could be that eBay is your only option...but do check back as they (very occasionally) are advertised here on Stereo2go.
