Finally got one at a reasonable price from eBay (€26), let’s hope it worth the hype.

£21+ for 1 audio tape - just an 60 min one at that - seems way too expensive. But, I guess the market will find it's own price...let me know how you get on...and at least this way you'll know what you've been missing

It was really curiosity that got hold of me.
Yes about the price of the SSMM, it’s a reasonable price by today’s prices. They are going for £60+ plus on eBay, but I was not willing to pay that just to find out if it’s good or not.

I see what you mean about a reasonable price... here's one for £99.00!

Look at this one, this person wants €149.90 for each C90

£21 for one piece of SMM 90, a really really bargain.
reasonble price is about £60-70 for one piece.
SMM is superb, I love it so much. It rivals CD in nearly every CD's advantage, but more mellow to hear.

Well I am not sure I would call it a real bargain. I would never pay the £60+ what people are asking for Sony Super Metal Master, considering that the C90 was only about £17 new.
The TDK MA-XG was always a good value for me at £10 it was cheaper and better then the Maxell Vertex at £13.
Like I said before I have heard so much about the Super Metal Master that I wanted to know if it’s hype or truly the best, well I guess I will find out soon.

Hey mate, did you get the Super Metal Master or the Metal Master, they are not the same tape. I have found the Super version a bit more demanding on the deck's electronics but generally, both are superb but you do need top quality source and cassette deck which I know you have. How do you like yours?
toocool4 - 2013-01-20 11:29
Hi Tuna yes it arrived yesterday and I have not had a chance to record on it yet.
When I get round to it, I will make a recording on it as well as MA-XG and possibly MA-R too so I can compare.
I will let you know what I think once I have tried it.

That was a really good price you got for that Sony Super Metal Master.
I have a few of these tapes and find them to be truly excellent. Very little to distinguish them from a normal Sony Metal Master except for the packaging. Sound reminds me of a smoother Sony Metal ES tape of yore but, with even greater capability.
A truly extroadinary tape and a welcome addition to your collection.
Sounds very different to your reference TDK MAX-G but is equally impressive.
Just make sure you don't drop the tape on a hard tiled floor as it will shatter!
