I would be interested in your black WM-60. PM me if you are still interested in selling it.

love these walkman - how much for a black one?

I think they are way overrated!!

Ha, I thought someone would say this.
You have to remember that the WM-60 boasted quite a set of features for 1986. 5-band graphic, auto reverse and all in a body the same size as a WM-2.
OK, it was a bit plasticky but inside the parts are metal, none of the plastic you see in the budget units of the time.
I suggest you cut the dear old WM-60 some slack young lady.

cheeky puss

I owned a WM-60 from new in the 80s.
It sounded excellent for the price - I had around £60 to spend & believe me, I tried everything at that price point (those poor staff at Laskeys... )
It also looked the part. It hides the plasticky bits very well, & the brushed metal gives it a touch of the WM-DC2 look (only a touch, mind).
The spec, as AO says, was top-choice: auto-reverse, Dolby, 5 band EQ, 2 headphone sockets.
It was perfectly reliable (even the auto-reverse), & I used it daily until it finally wore out.
I have another from eBay now & still love it.
Sure, you can get much better transports from Sony, Aiwa et al, but in 1986, this thing was £60 when a DC2 was £150...

Oh, & one other thing:
My brother wanted one, but as has been said it was only in production for a short while & it was no longer on sale.
The WM-36 appeared similar on paper, at least: Dolby, 5 band EQ, etc. but comparison between the two was a real surprise. The WM-36 was a league below. So marked was the difference, we even tried another to be certain.
In the end, my brother bought a Sanyo...

was the DC2 out at the same time as the wm60?
(i bought my first wm60 from Laskys - after demoing many others - in 85/86)
The DC2 I was aware of in 1987/88 - but ending up passing on (as I couldn't justify the 180 quid and crappy banded orange foamed bins) and buying a cheaper unit and them gold 39 pound Fontopia headphones

You're probably right, I should've picked an earlier DD with a brushed metal finish...
I demoed the DC2 against the Aiwa HS-PX101, & that time, Sony was not the victor...

must have been off my radar as a 14 year old then - also at that age I would have held auto reverse in high esteem on a portable device

I think you're right: auto-reverse wasn't that rare on a walkman, but it was seen as an upmarket feature, not seen on the cheaper units.
I thought the DC2 was around 1987 not 1984. Can anyone confirm?
